Natpe Miami Is in Full Swing

The high-voltage first day of Natpe Miami, which is being held at the Fontainebleau and Eden Roc hotels, had important announcements by Globo, Dopamine, THR3 Media Group, FOX Networks Group LatAm, Telemundo and Thema Americas-Kanal D Drama, among others.

The first day of Natpe Miami 2018, which is taking place until Thursday, January 18 at the Fontainebleu and Eden Roc hotels in Miami Beach, is proof of the market’s strong health.
 
This first day was all about announcements, presentations and launches from international companies, including producers, distributors and linear and non-linear platforms.
 
Globo inaugurated the day with its traditional screening, presenting its most recent news for 2018, with over 200 Hispanic attendees.
 
The event was hosted by Raphael Correa Netto, executive director of International Business at Globo, who spoke about the Brazilian giant’s strong content and its highlights for 2018, which include the series Jailers, The Formula, The Wise Ones and Under Pressure; superseries like Old River and Dark Days; telenovelas like Young Hearts, The Big Catch and Edge of Desire, in addition to movies by Globo Films.
 
“We have a highlight which is Edge of Desire,” Correa Netto said to ttvnews. “Not just because it’s Gloria’s, who’s created amazing hits in Brazil and internationally, but mainly because of how well it’s travelled in Brazil. We reached 70% share last week.”
 
In addition, the new producer Dopamine, presented by Salinas Group at Mipcom 2017 and led by Fidela Navarro, announced its second production: a Mexican teen series.
 
“Not only is María Magdalena about to start production, but we are also announcing a new production, very innovative in Mexico, with a Mexican flavor, and from then on to the world, with two amazing talents as Sebastián Mellino and Patricia Maldonado,” Navarro said to ttvnews.
 
The new original production will be written by Patricia Maldonado, with musical production by Sebastián Mellino, creator of Once Loops Media.
 
The series joins María Magdalena, already announced at Mipcom, which will soon go into production.
 
The brand new producer THR3 Media Group, created by Bruce Boren, Ricardo Costianovsky and Tomás Darcyl (Grupo Telefilms/Diamond Films), announced its first original production in Mexico: Santo, El Enmascarado de Plata.
 
“We are starting the design for the series. It’s an idea that comes from the few Mexican icons left to produce a series like this and we are delighted to have been chosen to do it,” said Bruce Boren, CEO of THR3 Media Group.
 
In terms of new networks, Thema Americas and Kanal D presented a new pay TV network, Kanal D Drama, which will offer the Turkish producer’s dramas, completely in Spanish for the Hispanic market. The network will offer catch-up and binge-watching, among other options.
 
A Major Worldwide Event
 
History presented a preview of the FIFA World Cup with a major event: History of Football, which will run during the two weeks prior to the World Cup, offering premium documentary series as well as short-form specials, complemented by a selection of niche films revolving around soccer.
 
The launch featured professional soccer player, David Villa.
 
In the afternoon, Parrot Analytics hosted a panel titled “The science behind the demand for popular content in Latin America,” featuring Adriana Cisneros, CEO of Cisneros Group; Wared Seger, CEO of Parrot Analytics, and Bruce Tuchman, president of Tuchman Global.
 
The panel focused on the need for more dynamic metrics to measure freagmented audiences’ tastes, while analyzing how to measure content demand, which is the true value of social networks; as well as the need to integrate these metrics to all links in the production chain.
 
The day ended with an exclusive event hosted by FOX Networks Group Latin America at the Faena Theater in Miami Beach, in which the Carlos Martínez-led group announced the strategy, for its original productions and new projects in the region.
 
The event featured over 20 talents, among them Adrián Suar, Andrés Parra, Alejandro Fantino,  Christian Meier, Loli Espósito and Gustavo Loza, among others.
 
The productions highlighted at the event included Aquí en la Tierra, Santa Evita, Ouro Branco, Río Héroes, El General, Infidel, a new talent show and new seasons of the successful Run Coyote Run, #llamamebruna, Uno Contra Todos and Sitiados.
 
At the same time, Telemundo hosted its traditional screening at the Eden Roc, where it presented the company’s excellent results in 2017, scored by its different divisions, including Telemundo Internacional, and announced the launch of Telemundo Global Studios, led by Marcos Santana. 
 
Additionally, the executive revealed they already have 10 projects planed and gave way to the presentation of The Inmate, the first series produced by the studio. 
 
This first day of Natpe Miami 2018 ended with the traditional opening party, with special guest Elvis Crespo.
