Numerous Announcements Mark the Start of Mipcom 2018

Inter Medya, Mediapro, Movistar+, Endemol Shine Boomdog and Somos, among others, animated an active first day for the event in Cannes.

The first day of Mipcom began with an intense rythm and a feeling of more participants from previous editions, something confirmed by Reed Midem sources to ttvnews, who revealed the number grew and even today accreditations were still being handed out.

While China, this year’s Country of Honor, was spread all over billboards and advertising at the Palais, Latin America and Spain made an impact during this first day through many announcements and alliances.

For starters, Snap Media arrived at Mipcom as part of Hemisphere Media Group, focused on promoting its new premium series production unit in Latin America. Ariel Tobi revealed to ttvnews that they hired an experienced executive in Mexican production, who they’ll present soon.

Meanwhile, MGM continued to bet on original production in Latin America, opening offices in Miami, led by Tomas Davison. “Our plan is to reproduce what we do in the US in Latin America, premiering at least two series a year,” said Chris Ottinger, president of TV Distribution and Acquisitions at MGM.

Eccho Rights, meanwhile, said Turkish dramas Insider and New Bride will arrive in new territories in Latin America, in announcements they’ll be making in the upcoming weeks.

Turkish talent also had its place during the first day of Mipcom. Calinos presented the stars of its series Our Story (Nesrin Cavadzade) and Woman (Ozge Ozpirincci).

Meanwhile, the Turkish version of the US hit This Is Us (Hayat Gibi) was presented to the international market through FOX Turkey, with the presence of actress Songül Öden and actor Birkan Sokullu.
