Whats New in LatAm This Week?

Telefe buys dramas from Eccho Rights, Telefonica takes shows to LatAm & looks to produce locally, Turner LatAm presents new co-production, LatAm and US Hispanic audiences stack up against each other, The Wit unveiled Top 5 titles for January, and more.


Telefe acquires two dramas from Eccho Rights. The Swedish distribution company has announced a deal with Argentine network Telefe for Turkish dramas Insider and Brave and Beautiful. In addition, Telefe acquired the second season of Elif, which is also distributed by Eccho Rights.


Telefonica to take its shows to Latin America while looking to produce locally. The shows will air on Movistar Series and on the Movistar Play app. Michael Duncan, Head of Movistar's Consumer Unit, gives ttvnews all the details. The network will be available from February 15 in Chile, Peru and Colombia both lineal and on-demand.


Turner Latin America gets cameras rolling on major new co-production. The new original fiction El lobista is now in production in Argentina as the latest of several future co-productions with eltrece, Cablevisión and Pol-ka; one of Turner’s many international alliances designed to take over the co-production market in Latin America. Directed by Daniel Barone, the 12-episode drama is written by Patricio Vega.


How do Latin American and US Hispanic audiences stack up against each other? Digital consultancy company Parrot Analytics analyzes for ttvnews the main differences and similarities in terms of TV consumption between both regions. Both regions preferred telenovelas among all genres, but in the US teen sitcoms won instead of dramedies.


The Wit unveiled the five most-searched titles for January. The company made a list of the 5 most popular titles from its FreshTV database for the first month of the year, which was dominated by game shows, quiz shows and talent formats. Shows include Child Support, The Launch, The Wave, The Final Four and Wedding Day Winners.
