The Industry Comes Together at the LA Screenings

The independent LA Screenings will take place on May 15-18 at the InterContinental Century City Hotel with more than 80 distributors from the US, LatAm, Europe and Asia; while the "majors" will take place on May 17-23. Up next, all the details.

Five days before the Independent LA Screenings 2018 kick off at the InterContinental Century City hotel in Los Angeles on May 18, ttvnews shares all the need-to-know behind one of the industry's most important international appointments.

This 2018 edition of the screenings will be the first that emerges from the newly formed association between its organizers and Natpe, which means the event is clearly committed to a format that allows for a greater business dynamic: a previous accreditation process, networking and business facilities - with a database of more than 1000 executives - and an official agenda packed with conferences and screenings that will take place at the same time as the marketplace.

"We are proud of the tremendous growth we've seen for the Independent LA Screenings this year and the unprecedented sales are further proof of the growing demand for quality television, produced independently," said the event's President Isabella Marquez. "It's pretty clear that if you're heading to Los Angeles this summer for the annual screenings, this is an event you cannot miss," she added.

The event will be attended by more than 80 distribution companies from the US, Latin America, Europe and Asia -located at suites and meeting tables-, and the organization expects to receive more than 400 acquisitions, programming and production executives from all the main broadcasters, media groups and digital platforms in Hispanic America.

"The reception of this year's exhibition has been incredible and we couldn't be more exciting. The goal behind this joint effort is to find the perfect home for the best in independent content, and the synergy between Natpe and the LA Screenings will surely make it happen," said JP Bommel, president and CEO of Natpe.

This collaboration is off to a good start with an expected attendance record. In fact, doe the first time ever, the marketplace has no more room on both the exhibition floor and the suites at the InterContinental Century City.

The industry's annual meeting will be decisive in continuing to consolidate the trends seen in the global content market, particularly in Latin America, which include new production, coproduction and distribution models. It will also help introduce the freshest genres that are currently paving the way for the sector: premium series, Turkish and exotic dramas, biblical telenovelas and large entertainment formats.

What's in the Agenda for the Indies?

It all begins on Tuesday 17 with the opening party for the independent event (Grand Salon Ballroom), sponsored by Olympusat, which will have as Venezuelan singer Chyno Miranda as a special guest.

That same day, and for the third consecutive year, Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA) will present a screening of its K Dramas in the morning and its K Formats in the afternoon (Grand Salon Ballroom), complete with all the latest news regarding content from the main producers and distributors hailing from the country.

On Thursday 17 Caracol Televisión will host its traditional screening (Grand Salon Ballroom) presenting the most recent original productions from the Colombian channel including biopic Bolívar, a show based on the life of Latin American hero Simón Bolívar.

During the whole "indie week" attendees can also enjoy, as part of TV Azteca's 25th anniversary celebration, a graphic sample that will be installed in the lobby of the InterContinental Century City.

The Majors Also Come with a Jam Packed Agenda

This year, the Hollywood majors will hold their upfronts and screenings on May 18-23 in order to present what's new for the 2018/2019 season in terms of new releases, renewals, cancelations, formats and films.
