Leading independent distributor all3media International has signed critically-acclaimed contemporary drama National Treasure to a host of broadcasters and platforms worldwide..
Produced by The Forge for Channel 4 and starring Robbie Coltrane, Julie Walters and Andrea Riseborough, four-part drama National Treasure has been acquired by Super Channel for Canada, where the drama will premiere in April, as well as ABC for Australia and TVNZ for New Zealand.
In Europe, National Treasure has been picked up by Comunidad Filmin Spain, HRT Croatia, NRK Norway, RUV Iceland and YLE Finland. A UK inflight deal has been signed with Spafax and DVD/Video deals have been signed by Just Licensing for the Netherlands, and Flemish speaking Belgium and Luxembourg, and RLJE International for the UK.
National Treasure made its debut on Channel 4 last year, doubling the broadcaster's slot average, and showcased as a Hulu original in the US this month. The drama has also proved a hit on the festival and awards circuit, picking up Best Actor (Robbie Coltrane) and the Jury’s Award at Roma Fiction Festival, Best Screenplay (Jack Thorne) and Best Original Music at the FIPA Awards, and two nominations at the C21 Drama Awards - Best Female Performance in a Drama Series (Julie Walters) and Best Male Performance in a Drama Series (Robbie Coltrane).
The drama was also presented at the Cologne Film Festival as part of its top ten TV strand, where all episodes were screened to coincide with the air of the final episode in the UK.
National Treasure follows Paul Finchley (Coltrane), an ageing, beloved comedian -hero to TV audiences and peers alike- after he is arrested following an allegation of rape dating back to the 90s. Produced by The Forge, written by Jack Thorne (This is England), and executive produced by George Faber (Shameless) and George Ormond (War and Peace), National Treasure focuses on both the investigation, from arrest through to verdict, and the effect the case has on his family, going behind the headlines to look at the human and emotional impact when a whole life is called into question.
Louise Pedersen, CEO at all3media International, said: "We're very pleased to see National Treasure heading to such a variety of clients worldwide. This bold and poignant series received wide critical acclaim during its air in the UK and the US and has received a host of accolades for its compelling and thoroughly absorbing study of the impact these historical charges have on both sides of the courtroom. With its timely, globally-relevant storyline, star-studded cast, high production values and ratings success, now combined with these fantastic new sales, we’re expecting National Treasure to continue to prove a standout drama on the international stage."
