CBS Network is now developing a new scripted comedy, The Last Happy Couple, an adaptation of the popular Israeli format La Famiglia.
The adaptation will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Fulwell 73 and Anoynmous Content, and will be written and executive produced by Liz Astrof (The King of Queens, 2 Broke Girls, The Connors).
Also serving as executive producer are Ben Winston, Jeff Grosvenor from Fulwell 73, Robyn Meisinger from Anonymous Content, Ran Dovrat, Avi Belkin, Ohad Perach, Efrat Dror, Zivit Davidovitch and Avi Armoza.
Named one of The Wit’s “Best Scripted Formats of the Year”, the format La Famiglia has found success worldwide.
Distributed by Armoza Formats, this year the third Israeli season aired on Channel 13 while the Indian adaptation of the format (locally titled Mind the Malhotras) began streaming on Amazon Prime Video. In addition, the series has been a hit in Cyprus, where the second season just premiered.
Produced by United Studios of Israel, La Famiglia follows the lives of a perfectly normal suburban family living in the divorce capital of the country. With many reasons to be happy, they have even more reasons to go to therapy – their sex life, his best friend, her complaints, and of course, his mother.
Their therapy sessions provide the entertaining basis for the series, through which we flashback to the comical, stand-alone scenes from their daily life. Each episode is a new therapy session in which they bring up the most embarrassing, bizarre, awkward and insane moments that are a part of every family’s life.
Sharon Levi, Head of Sales at Armoza Formats, said: “We are very excited to be collaborating with such an amazing group to bring this hilarious show to the US. CBS feels like the natural home for a family comedy like ‘La Famiglia’ and with her extensive experience, Liz Astrof is the perfect writer for the project.”
