From now on, the creative minds Paquita Salas and La llamada will funnel all their scripted and entertainment projects through the Atresmedia-owned company.
On Friday, Atresmedia Studios –an Atresmedia-owned production unit set up in late 2017– announced an exclusivity deal with Javier Ambrosi and Javier Calvo (better known as Los Javis), the creators of hit shows Paquita Salas and La llamada.
Thus, any and all new projects by Suma Latina, Los Javis’s production outfit, will be developed hand in hand with Atresmedia Studios.
The deal contemplates any sort of audiovisual production, either scripted or entertainment, be it for third parties or Atresmedia-owned channels or platforms.
Ignacio Corrales, general manager of Atresmedia Studios, explains the new phase the company is entering after a successful freshman year: "Atresmedia Studios is taking a big strategic leap, recruiting the best talent around on an exclusive basis. This is set to add a great deal of value, differentiating us from the other players in the marketplace.”
"Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo have proven to have a voice of their own. They have combined talent and success, and we are going to work with them to jointly develop products that are both easily recognizable and unique. We intend to grow with the best, and with this partnership we want to shake the market with original talent blanketed by our editorial capabilities, on the shoulders of Atresmedia group,” he adds.
“Atresmedia Studios has been active for a year, and the goals set for the company have been amply met, having developed products with local and global appeal. We must continue down that road, but it is time to take it to the next level, bringing the best talent on board on an exclusive basis,” concludes Corrales.
This deal strenghtens the productive relationship between Atresmedia and Javier Ambrosi and Javier Calvo, which in 2016 spawned the acclaimed show Paquita Salas, which was then picked up by Netflix.
"We feel that our way of understanding scripted TV matches Atesmedia Studios’s perfectly, this is a great opportunity to tell diverse, moving and liberating stories with guidance from the best,” says Javier Calvo.
Javier Ambrossi, in turn, claims that he intends “to grow as a creator, screenwriter, director and producer thanks to this deal, and to do so in a generational direction. We’re thrilled to be setting out on this journey.”
With this announcement, Atresmedia Studios doubles its bet on Spanish creative audiovisual talent, kicking off 2019 in high gear after the release of The Pier, produced with Vancouver Media for Movistar+, and of Pequeñas coincidencias, launched in December, on Amazon Prime Video.
Besides, at the latest Mipcom the company announced El Valle, a series consisting of eight 50-minute episodes set in the Pyrenees during the 17th Century.
To be the link between the main players in the entertainment industry is not an easy task. It means creating a platform aimed at a group of highly informed and demanding professionals. But with great effort and commitment, we did it.
