This Tuesday, April 23, Record TV premiered its most recent biblical production: Jezabel, which according to local press reached an 11.0 rating, with spiked of 13 in San Pablo and 12 in Rio de Janeiro, with an 18% share.
To find out more about the production, ttvnews spoke to Alexandre Avancini, director of the series, which has been in production since January, filmed in Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Morroco” where other great productions such as Babel, Game of Thrones or Gladiator.
"Most of Jezabel's outside shots were filmed in Morocco, in places like Uarzazate, which is a very cinematic town, with locations and studios," Alexandre Avancini, director of Jezebel, told ttvnews.
Also, Avancini highlighted the locations used in Aït-Ben-Haddou, as well as several others in the desert, where a team with technicians from Brazil, Spain and France participated during almost two months of shoots.
"We are using the lenses and cameras used in all major film productions and American and European serial dramas," explained Avancini, who seeks through photography to "transport the viewer on this journey through time."
In parallel, the post-production area used the latest in graphic technology to design and compose the impressive images where this story takes place, located in 860 BC.
"We are working with state-of-the-art technology in terms of graphic composition, because almost all the scenes require some kind of special effect," explains the director.
"Jezebel has many battle scenes, as well as locations in cities and natural settings, there is a great graphic component to complement the scenes, we use the most innovative technology in the market that allows us to create this fantasy and go back to biblical times," he explained.
It took 40 days of work and a team of 20 people to design and make the costumes; more than 40 technicians for the assembly of the sets in Brazil and 30 in Morocco.
Filming for Jezabel in Morrocco
The biblical drama is a co-production by Record with Formata Produções. It was written by Cristianne Fridman and stars Lidi Lisboa, who has already participated in other telenovelas by Record TV, such as La esclava madre and Belaventura, and plays the lead role in Jezabel.
The cast also includes names such as Juliana Xavier, Juan Alba, Juliana Schalch, Alexandre Slaviero, André Bankoff, Graziella Schmitt and Sthefany Brito.
The biblical character Jezebel was the wife of Ahab, king of Israel. Deeply religious, Jezebel spread idolatry and abused the power she possessed, actively putting herself against the God of Israel.
Filmed also in Paulínia, in the interior of São Paulo, a reference for Brazilian cinema, the drama will become the eleventh Bible production for Record TV after: Samson and Delilah, King David, The Story of Esther, Joseph of Egypt, Moses and the Ten Commandments, The Promised Land, The rich and Lazarus, Apocalypse, Lia and Jesus.
The launch of Jezabel for the international market will be at the next LA Screenings Independents, in Los Angeles.
