Trotsky, the new 8-part series from Sreda Production Company in Russia, will be distributed worldwide by Eccho Rights.
An historical epic produced for Channel 1 in Russia to mark the centenary of the Russian Revolution, Trotsky will have its world premiere at Mipcom with a gala screening in the Grand Auditorium at Palais des Festivals in Cannes, on Tuesday, October 17th.
The series charts the rise of Trotsky and his integral role in the October Revolution of 1917, through to his exile in Mexico. The story is told from his own perspective in the form of a confessional testament that he hopes will be his last chance to exact revenge on Stalin who so cruelly betrayed him. It is the first time Trotsky’s life has been dramatised on-screen.
Leading the cast as Leon Trotsky is Konstantin Khabensky, one of Russia’s most recognized leading men, a multiple award winner for both television and film. Olga Sutulova plays Trotsky’s wife and fellow revolutionary Natalia Sedova.
"Trotsky is an epic production that we are very proud to be representing," said Nicola Söderlund, Managing Partner of Eccho Rights. "Trotsky’s story is fascinating and with so much attention on the centenary of the Russian Revolution this year, we expect to see huge interest in the series."
Alexander Tsekalo CEO of Sreda Production Company, added: "We are very proud of this series and we can’t wait for people to see it for the first time at Mipcom. To have Eccho Rights assistance with international sales is a great bonus for us as their team has a great record and reputation in the market."
Eccho Rights has represented Sreda’s hit series Silver Spoon since 2015. The crime drama has received rave reviews from Netflix viewers, while the format has been picked up by a host of territories across Europe.
