The Brazilian giant’s most ambitious telenovela made its debut on January 9 at 7:00pm, reaching a 28.9 rating in San Pablo, becoming the best premiere of a telenovela in that timeslot since 2012.

This past Tuesday, January 9 at 7:00pm, Globo premiered the highly-anticipated medieval telenovela Deus Salve o Rei (God Save the King) in Brazil, surpassing all expectations.

The new telenovela reached a 28.9 rating and spiked up to 30.8 in San Pablo, vastly surpassing its competitors.

With these numbers, in addition, it became the highest-rated premiere for any Globo telenovela in that timeslot since 2012.

With over 100 episodes and shot in an indoor city set, with an amount of visual effects that surpasses all other Globo productions, God Save the King stands as the company’s “most ambitious telenovela”.

The telenovela has a medieval plot with dramatic and comedic elements, which has a meticulous and impressive work of technology, costumes and set design to build the two kingdoms where the story takes place.

The plot begins with two brother princes who don’t want the throne: one is afraid to be king and the other abdicates the throne for the love of a commoner.

To bring the castles, mountainous fields, horses and carriages to life in majestic settings, as well as the two medieval kingdoms, the telenovela was filmed in an indoor city set at the Globo Studios in Rio de Janeiro, with two sheds that measure more than two thousand square meters.

The telenovela brings a stellar cast to the production, such as Marina Ruy Barbosa (Total Dreamer), Bruna Marquezine (Helena’s Shadow), Caio Blat (Empire), Ricardo Pereira (Precious Pearl), Johnny Massaro (Fight or Love?), and Tatá Werneck and Rosamaria Murtinho (both from Trail of Lies), among others.
