Laia Costa and Guillermo Pfening
HBO Spain’s third original series, a romantic comedy from Isabel Coixet, confirmed the casting of Spanish actress Laia Costa and Argentine actor Guillermo Pfening as the leading couple.
HBO Europe announced some news regarding Foodie Love, its third original fiction in Spain after Patria and 30 monedas.
The series created by Isabel Coixet has finally confirmed its leading couple: Spanish actress Laia Costa and Argentine actor Guillermo Pfening.
The actors lead the show’s eight half-hour episodes that will give the recipe for cooking a slow-fire relationship between two food-impassioned characters that meet through an online dating app.
Winner of the Gaudí award for her performance in Victoria, Costa will step into the role of a smiling 33-year-old editor, intelligent and somewhat suspicious of relationships.
Costa was nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star in 2017 and for the Best Actress Award of the European Film Academy. Her work in film includes other highlights like Newness, Duck Butter, Como la vida misma or Only You. In television she has participated in Bandolera, Red Band Society, Charles, King Emperor or Cites.
On his end, actor and director Guillermo Pfening will bring to life the other half of the main couple, a successful mathematician, cultured and innocent.
Pfening won best actor at the Tribeca Festival for his work on Nadie nos mira, and is known in Argentina for his work in Supermax, Valientes o Vidas Cruzadas. His film credits include Nacido y Criado and El Doctor Aleman (Wakolda).
Foodie Love will be set in in Barcelona, France, Rome and Tokyo, inside cafes, bars and restaurants that will work as the setting for the couple’s dates, using food and drinks as fundamental elements in their budding love relationship.
Production company Miss Wasabi Films will begin shooting the series next week, according to HBO Spain.
Executive producers for HBO Europe include Miguel Salvat, Steve Matthews and Antony Root.
The show will premiere simultaneously in all HBO Europe territories.
To be the link between the main players in the entertainment industry is not an easy task. It means creating a platform aimed at a group of highly informed and demanding professionals. But with great effort and commitment, we did it.
