The Digital Entertainment Group revealed the final numbers for Home Entertainment spending in the US during 2018, which registered an increase of 11.7% compared to last year.

With a total spending of 23.3 billion dollars, 2018 was a record year for Home Entertainment, according to the latest figures released by DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group.

According to DEG, the numbers represent a historical record for the sector and a growth of 11.5% compared to 2017. But what drives this growth? Like everything else lately, the answer is streaming.

Looking at SVOD services alone, the total expenditure of households was of 12.9 billion dollars, 30% more than in 2017.

TVOD, on the other hand, amounted to 4.5 billion dollars, up 10.5% from last year. This modality was split between digital content purchases, which generated 2.4 billion dollars; and the rental of digital content, which generated 2.1 billion.

Another sector with a great year was 4K UHD content, which went up 70%. Its influence on the final figures is still of little consequence, with only 445 titles available in 4K UHD Blu-ray and 682 in digital format.

In addition, physical copies dropped once again in 2018 with a total of 4 billion dollars, down 14.6% from 2017.
