Kanal D Drama was launched by Thema TV in Latin America on October 1, 2018. In only five months, the HD channel specialized in hit Turkish drama series has struck deals with more than 50 regional cable TV operators.
"In Latin America and the US, Cable TV operators have given the channel a very warm welcome," said to ttvnews Luis Fonseca, head of Sales for Latin America at Thema TV.
"Everybody knows that Turkish dramas are a kind of content that has been tested to great success by most of the main FTA channels in Latin America,” stressed the exec.
In this regard, Kanal D Drama is already available in more than 50 regional cable TV operators in countries like Bolivia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Panama.
"We have held meetings with the biggest cable operators in the region, apart from the small and medium-sized ones, and I believe 2019 will bring great results,” asserted Fonseca.
"Kanal D lands in Latin America with everything it needs to be widely distributed. Apart from the premium content we offer, we are the holders of all the rights – streaming and catch-up –, which means the channel can be offered with all the rights, so that it can easily adapt to what is happening in the market, where most operators are offering and creating their own OTT services, for which they request these kinds of rights, in addition to the changes audiences’ viewing habits are undergoing,” he said.
As far as distribution is concerned, the exec said that the relationship with affiliates is being handled through representatives in Latin America.
"We’re currently searching for a representative for Colombia and Central America,” Fonseca announced.
What does the company expect from 2019? "There has been a great response from cable TV operators. Projections hint at a great 2019 for us,” he concluded.
