The first edition of the Production Summit, was held this Monday, May 13, at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, prior to the start of a new edition of the Independent LA Screenings.

Steven Adams (Buffalo 8 Productions), Juliana Algañaraz (Endemol Shine Brazil), Sally Habbershaw (All3Media International), Stone Newman (pocket.watch), Alon Shtruzman (Keshet International), Fernando Szew (MarVista Entertainment), Patrick Vien (A+E Networks) and Courtney Williams (Parrot Analytics) were part of the outstanding line-up of top industry executives.

Although the Production Summit had very solid attendance numbers, they were all mostly small American producers.

At networking events, as well as keynotes and panels, the presence of Hispanic producers and distributors was outstanding, which challenges the event’s organization to develop this segment and adjust details for future editions.

The conferences and panels -as well as the Case Study by Endemol Shine Brazil- revolved around the new industry economy, the impulse global digital platforms have given to content, the new production models for original content and strategic deals as new ways to expand the business.

In dialogue with ttvnews, Fernando Szew commented on the company’s strategic alliances in Latin America with a joint venture alongside Hemisphere Media Group and Snap Media for the development of original series, as well as the development of films for the English-language market in Canada.

"At MarVista, we’re still coming in strong with production. With the explosion and demand for content we’re still very well positioned," said the executive.

On her end, Juliana Algañaraz, CEO of Endemol Shine Brazil, said that in addition to hit franchises such as MasterChef or The Wall in Brazil, the company is already developing three premium fictions -with first window rights to be confirmed -, in addition to a soap opera for beer brand Skol to be released on Facebook.

"We are working on some scripted projects; it's a new market," said Algañaraz.

"We are coming in strong with series. We will be able to announce three projects that we could produce in 2020; some with 40 episodes, others with 13 and three seasons. We have everything from biblical series to teen dramas," she said.

In addition, Ana María Barreto, Executive VP and Country Manager at FOXTelecolombia told ttvnews that the independent production company is putting together an original fiction for an OTT platform, in addition to another original series "for a big player" in the region.

"In recent months we have been working on projects with very innovative players for us as a company," said Barreto. "For example, with an OTT in Latin America and an alliance with a very important player in the industry," she added.

Meanwhile, Alejandro Leda, president of Ledafilms, announced that the long-awaited animated film Playmobil: The Movie, an independent 80 million euro budget film, will be released next August in Latin American countries.

"Playmobil took more than three years to produce. There is a lot of storyboard development, a lot of character development. In terms of independent animation, it’s really one of the best in the market," said the executive.
