The Real World season 32
The series created by Bunim/Murray Productions air exclusively on Facebook Watch and will have three new local seasons –currently in pre-production- in Mexico, Thailand and the US for 2019.
MTV Studios, part of MTV and Viacom, announced at Mipcom 2018 a partnership with Facebook Watch to re-launch the groundbreaking series MTV’s The Real World with three completely new seasons that will debut in the spring of 2019.
The announcement was revealed during the Facebook Watch presentation at Cannes hosted by Matthew Henick, Chief of Content Planning and Strategy for Facebook; Paresh Rajwat, Product Management Director for Facebook; and Chris McCarthy, President of MTV.
With Facebook’s reach as a global platform, the three new seasons will be produced locally in Mexico, Thailand and the US, and will explore friendships, relationships and cultural and social environments in every country.
Available exclusively on Facebook Watch, the new episodes will feature interactive social and community features that will allow fans to take action and connect through Facebook’s app.
As revealed during the conference, the format’s creators Bunim/Murray Productions (BMP) will join as co-producers of the new seasons alongside MTV Studios.
Pre-Production is already underway in all three locations for a 2019 rollout.
"MTV’s The Real World helped define a generation and created a new television genre thanks to the simple but powerful idea of connecting people from different backgrounds to find common ground on the issues that often divide them," said McCarthy.
"By partnering with Facebook Watch and BMP, we have the opportunity once again to generate an impact and create a new television genre, and also to catch the attention of the next generation of consumers around the world," he added.
Social interaction on Facebook Watch will enhance the audience's experience as the Facebook community will have the power to vote to add a member to the house before the premiere, and there will also be the opportunity for fans to connect with the cast through Facebook Live, Premieres and Watch Party.
Facebook Watch will also launch daily segments and scenes from the upcoming episodes premiering every week.
Other additional elements of social interaction will be presented before the launch and during the seasons.
In addition, it was also announced during the conference that Facebook Watch is taking its interactive Confetti games format to other territories worldwide including EMEA, APAC and Latin America with local versions of the show towards the end of this year.
Furthermore, Facebook Watch will be presenting The World's Most Amazing Dog, an interactive competition series for the international market that celebrates dogs and their owners, in partnership with the global distribution partner The Dodo.
