Mediapro, Microsoft Look for eSports Startups in LatAm

Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft and Mediapro have opened a call to find innovative eSports initiatives in Latin America.

Global Sports Innovation Center powered by Microsoft (GSIC) and its strategic partner, Mediapro, are rolling out a new competition for tech startups within their Sport Thinkers program, which will be devoted to eSports.
 
The Sport Thinkers eSports program, designed by the GSIC, will focus on identifying and selecting innovative initiatives that may have a positive impact on the digital treatment of business models associated with eSports to provide support and offer business opportunities in collaboration with Mediapro.
 
The companies that sign up to participate will have to work on solutions that apply to the following areas:
 
1. Content generation linked to professional and amateur eSports (content, sales, consumption analysis, price estimates and consumer segmentation).
 
2. New disruptive scenarios for monetization on different platforms and digital assets linked to eSports.
 
3. Promoting the use of user profiles, visualization of information and statistics. 
 
4. Generating personalized content (video, image and audio) and cross sales of other products/services.
 
5. Experiences linked to immersive technologies and 360 audio.
 
“This calling is a first step in promoting the development of tech-based startups than can provide added value to service companies such as Mediapro and benefit from being part of the GSIC ecosystem,” said Iris Córdoba, GM of the GSIC.
 
María Carmen Fernández, director of Innovation at Mediapro, added: “At Mediapro we’ve bet on the eSports division, where we see clear growth opportunities, especially in the field of content, and where new initiatives and business formulas must be developed, that are designed for the new ways to consume content.”
 
“The content consumption experience for eSports is linked to fans’ experience and sports content consumption. The collaboration with GSIC will gather the best of both worlds: the knowledge of he world of sports on TV and its fans, and digital consumption. The challenge is to redesign these new services and product to personalize the experience, with business models that are sustainable.”
 
The action begins on November 8. All the startups that wish to participate must fill out a form explaining their experience in the industry and the value they can provide to Mediapro with their projects. Submissions can be done until December 16. After that, a jury of GSIC and Mediapro professionals will choose 20 companies who will then present their projects to them.
 
In the final stage, five startups will be chosen, which in February of 2019 will be part of an immersive week with Mediapro to know more about their needs and their vision for eSports. The winning companies will also be part of GSIC’s business network, where they’lll benefit from mentoring sessions with the best in the sports industry, networking, activities devoted to innovation and research, B2B contacts, media visibility and international events.
