Sultan Ahmed Khan's great love, mother of three sultans, beloved of the people of Istanbul, most powerful of all the royal Ottoman women; Magnificent Century: Kosem takes its name from one of the most influential women in history, the great Sultana Kösem.
Produced by Tims Productions and distributed by Global Agency, the new costume drama follows the international phenomenon that was Magnificent Century, and promises to provide all the love, intrigue and passion of its predecessor.
"For me being in this project was a big challenge. Every day is an experience. Every day I wait for what will happen next. I'm like in a dream and I'm horrified that I will wake up," said Anastasia Tsilimpiou, star of Magnificent Century: Kosem, who spoke to ttv at the recent Mipcom in Cannes, where Global Agency was presenting the highly-anticipated drama.
The actress plays a young Kosem in the series, a role she took on as a great challenge: "I took it as a challenge and of course, I fell in love with my character for the first time," she said. "This story is like those books that you want to keep turning pages to see the whole story, and I wanted to see what happens next."
Thsilimpou co-star is Ekin Koc, who plays the powerful Ahmed Khan, the youngest sultan in Ottoman history who succeeded to the throne in 1603. "I loved Ahmed, he mesmerized me," he said. "I want to play Ahmed because when you see Magnificent Century, the first one, you see the power. But when you see this one, you see more human side. You feel like it's one of us. His vulnerability."
Magnificent Century: Kosem follows the original Magnificent Century, picking up four generations after the reign of Sultan Suleyman the Magnificent. The new drama has very big shoes to fill, as it follows one of Turkey's most successful productions in history.
"It's a big production," Ekin Koc said. "Magnificent Century was a huge success. And now, to be in this project, it's a great opportunity. We feel great because it's a great story with great people."
Distributed by Global Agency and produced by Tims Productions, the series first premiered in November on Turkey's Star TV.
