The Fenix Awards were hosted this Wednesday in Mexico City, to honor the best productions in film and TV in Ibero-America. Netflix dominated the TV categories, with awards for Club de Cuervos and Narcos.

Granted by the Cinema23 Association, made up of audiovisual professionals from America, Spain and Portugal, the fourth edition of the Fenix Awards, hosted this past Wednesday in Mexico City, featured TV categories for the first time.

And the big winner was unquestionably Netflix, which dominated the TV three categories in the show.

In terms of dramas, its original production Narcos was chosen as the Best Drama in Ibero America, beating its competitors 3% (Brazil), Cable Girls (Spain), Cuatro estaciones en La Habana (Spain-Cuba-Germany) and Estocolmo (Argentina).

According to its director, Colombia's Andrés Baiz, the series has "broken paradigms", since "US viewers are reading subtitles for the first time."

On the comedy side, the big winner was Club de Cuervos, which trumped Feriados (Uruguay), Nafta Súper (Argentina), Prata da casa (Brazil) and Run Coyote Run (Mexico).

Narcos also won the award for Best Cast Ensemble, competing against El Marginal (Argentina), Cuatro estaciones en La Habana (Spain-Cuba-Germany), Bala Loca (Chile) and Vis a Vis (Spain).

"It was about time. Series are like a sort of extended movie. At the end of the day, the community who develops films is the same one that's now producing series," said Mexican actor Luis Gerardo Méndez when accepting the award for Club de Cuervos.

In terms of films, meanwhile, Una mujer fantástica, a co-production between Chile, Spain, Germany and the US, was crowned as the Best Movie in Ibero-America.

Sebastián Lelio, its director, won the award for Best Director, while the film's star, Daniela Vega, won in the Best Leading Actress category.

Óscar Martínez, was chosen as the Best Leading Actor for his role in the film El ciudadano ilustre (Argentina-Spain).
