Netflix’s competition in the region is growing and audiences are beginning to explore other offers from new streaming platforms. That, at least, seems to be the case according to Parrot Analytics’ new analysis, which studied audiences’ TV demands in Argentina and revealed interesting facts about this phenomenon.
In the week of March 4 to 10, the digital series most in demand in the country were divided equally between Netflix and other platforms, taking away the streaming giant’s usual dominance.
Still, Netflix did win first place in the ranking, thanks to The Umbrella Academy, the successful adaptation of the comic that generated 3,937,241 Average Demand Expressions (ADE).
The platform also took the fourth spot (Stranger Things; 1,662,347 ADE), tenth (Black Mirror; 1,120,587 ADE), fifth (Narcos; 1,631,546 ADE) and ninth (Money Heist; 1,129,971 ADE), the latter being the only two Hispanic series in the list.
The five remaining spots were divided among other streaming services: Hulu took second place with The Handmaid’s Tale (1,978,222 ADE) and DC Universe took the third and sixth spots with Doom Patrol (1,744,463 ADE) and Titans (1,574,165 ADE), respectively.
Cobra Kai by YouTube Premium in seventh place (1,559,251 ADE) and Star Trek: Discovery by CBS All Access in eighth (1,256,124 ADE), complete the digital ranking.
Meanwhile, the general TV ranking of most demanded series in Argentina is unsurprisingly led by the always successful Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, which took the first and second spots with 9,999,025 ADE and 4,871,671 ADE, respectively.
Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy also enjoys a prominent position in the general ranking, closing the podium in third place.
Spain’s Vis a vis stands out as the only Spanish-language series on the list in ninth place with 2,075,426 ADE, while The Simpsons is the only animated series in sixth place with 3,464,946 ADE.
The list is completed by Grey’s Anatomy in fourth place (3,826,532 ADE), Riverdale in fifth (3,759,487 ADE), Vikings in seventh (2,464,964 ADE), Brooklyn Nine Nine in eigth (2,159,311 ADE) and Outlander closing the ranking in last place (2,061,288 ADE).
