Titled Slaughterhouse, the new Atresmedia original premiered as an audience leader on Spanish broadcast TV and with major backing from social media, where it’s been dubbed “the Spanish Fargo”.
Antena 3 is having an unbelievable start to 2019. After the highly anticipated premiere of The Voice Spain, which met every expectation following its move from Telecinco, the network aired episode one of new original fiction Slaughterhouse, the first series to premiere in 2019.
And audiences chose the Atresmedia-owned network once again: with a 21.6% share and 3,336,000 viewers, the "Iberian thriller" was the most watched show on primetime and the most watched show of the day.
Meanwhile, Telecinco chose to air movie Allied, starring Brad Pitt, and reached a 12% share and an average of 1.50 million viewers.
In addition, the numbers pulled by Slaughterhouse make the show the best fiction premiere of the 2018-19 season, a title previously held by Telecinco’s series Vivir sin permiso (19.2% share and 2.59 million views).
The ranking is completed with Presumed Guilty (Antena 3, 16% and 2.26 million), Tell me How it Happened (TVE, 15.4% and 2.21 million), I Am Alive (TVE, 11.5% and 1.66 million) and El Continental (TVE, 10.4% and 1.52 million).
The show’s debut was also a hit on social media, where users have classified it as the "Spanish Fargo".
Slaughterhouse is an Atresmedia original produced in collaboration with Diagonal TV. It presents a total of ten episodes and a closed ending.
The neighbors of a region of Castile, absolutely normal people, will see how totally unexpected circumstances lead them to commit acts they never thought themselves capable of, until they reach a point of now return. It’s an Iberian thriller in which suspense and dark humor generate a very particular atmosphere.
The show stars Pepe Viyuela and Lucía Quintana, among others. Jordi Frades directs and Daniel Martín Sáez de Parayuelo (creator and coordinator of the series), Laura Sarmiento, Fernando Navarro, Nacho Cabana and Chus Vallejo wrote the scripts.
After its broadcast on Atresmedia networks, Slaughterhouse will air on Amazon Prime Video in Spain and Latin America, following an agreement announced during the last Mipcom.
