The reality competition is returning to the American broadcaster after 16 years to expand its unscripted programing slate in an era in which relationship-driven formats continue to grow and comebacks are stronger than ever.

Relationship-driven formats have become all the rage in recent times, and now Fox is jumping on the bandwagon with the revival of Paradise Hotel, which is being rebooted by Jersey Shore creator SallyAnn Salsano sixteen years after it was last on air.

The move, which follows USA Network’s commission of Banijay Rights format Temptation Island and CBS’s American adaptation of the hit ITV format Love Island, both of them also revivals, is part of Fox most recent push into unscripted programming with shows like The Masked Singer and The Four.

Paradise Hotel first aired in Fox back in 2003 and then took a break for a few years before coming back in 2008 to air on Fox Reality Channel - which has since closed operations- and syndication service MyNetworkTV.

The format follows a group of singles in a luxury resort trying to outlast one another as they compete to stay in the hotel for the longest period of time. Each week, the contestants are paired off to share a hotel room. The person who is left over without a partner has to leave the show, and a new contestant comes in to replace them.

Paradise Hotel was a show ahead of its time, and this incredible team of producers plan to take it to the next level,” said Rob Wade, president of alternative entertainment and specials for Fox.

“The format allows for a delicious mix of love, drama and humor with a uniquely Fox twist. By using fresh interactive elements, it enables fans to orchestrate the show’s narrative, making it can’t-miss television for a new generation of viewers,” he added.

The reboot, which has already begun casting, will be produced by Salsano’s 495 Productions. Salsano is also acting as executive producer alongside Becca Walker and Celia Taylor from UK producer Mentorn Media, the original creators of the format.
