Netflix announced this Tuesday a new bioseries revisiting the life the Queen of Tejano music, co-produced with Campanario Entertainment.

As the bioseries boom expands out of Latin American, it now lands in the US with the latest announcement by Netflix regarding the production of a series based on the life of Selena Quintanilla.

The bioseries will be produced by Campanario Entertainment, with Moisés Zamora as screenwriter and executive producer. Also billed as executive producers are Jaime Dávila, Rico Martínez, Suzette Quintanilla, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. and Simran A. Singh.

“With this series, audiences will finally get to know the full story of Selena, our family, and the impact she had on our lives. We are very happy to be working together with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a realistic account of our story as it has never been told before, contributing to keep Selena’s legacy alive for future generations,” said Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s sister.

The series will reportedly portray the singer’s life since her origins, her rise to fame and the challenges she and her family had to face.

“Selena and the entire Quintanilla family are a great inspiration for many people, and especially for, a millennial with the same cultural background,” explained Jaime Dávila, President of Campanario Entertainment. “I cannot think of a better partner than Netflix to celebrate the life of Selena and her family,” he added.

Campanario Entertainment is the production company that brought us Camelia la Texana and is now co-producing with Keshet Entertainment the teen musical series Bandolero.

Prior to the announced bioseries, Selena Quintanilla—“the Queen of Tejano music”—was brought back to life by Jennifer López in the 1997 film Selena, and by the Disney Media Distribution Latin America series El secreto de Selena, which centered around the events that led to her death and the ensuing investigation by María Celeste Arrarás.
