Shows from Pol-ka, Telemundo, Atresmedia and Mediaset Spain, as well as productions from Globo and Eccho Rights, took center stage among the freshest shows in the market, according to The Wit. Up next, all trends and titles.

By Gonzalo Larrea, from Cannes, France.

After conferences devoted to formats and kids shows, The Wit offered on Wednesday, its traditional Fresh TV Fiction conference, where the company presented the latest trends in international fiction.

In front of a packed Grand Auditorium, the Swiss consultancy company revealed the freshest titles in the market and some interesting trends regarding the global production of series.

For example, 5% of all new series produced are based on formats. And countries like Argentina and Spain are among those that have the higher export of ideas.

The podium is spearheaded by South Korea, followed by the US and the UK. The list is completed by Spain, Japan, Argentina, Israel, Germany and Russia.

On the other hand, among the bigger importers of formats, we can highlight Mexico. The ranking is completed with the US, Ukraine, Mexico, Germany, South Korea, China, Greece, France and the Netherlands.

Another finding is that almost every format adaptation comes from neighboring countries. In Mexico, for example, 8 out of 9 adaptations come from Latin American territories.

Now, taking a look at the traditional list of shows that have stood out globally in the last six months, The Wit highlighted the strong presence of Spanish-language fictions, shining a quality on the increasing high quality of the shows.

Among the 15 titles selected we can highlight Argentina, Land of Passion and Revenge (Pol-ka Produciones for El Trece), Betty in NY (Telemundo, NBCUniversal International), Toy Boy (Atresmedia) and Dangerous Moms (Mediterráneo).

In addition, Globo stood out with Aruanas, while Eccho Rights featured with two shows: Sweden’s Honor and Romania’s Eternity.
