Mediaset Spain’s leading channel has announced the premiere date of State Secrets, the second scripted offering of the channel in 2019 after Los nuestros season 2.
This Wednesday, February 13, Spanish prime time television will witness another clash of scripted TV shows when Telecinco premieres State Secrets, set to go up against Slaughterhouse on Antena 3.
After the discreet ratings scored by the second installment of their miniseries Los Nuestros, aired on Telecinco during January, the channel is now slating a political intrigue thriller revealing the ins and outs of power after an assassination attempt
“Quoting Francis Bacon, ‘it is very difficult to reconcile politics and morality.’ The characters in State Secrets attest to the validity of this quote. Political drama was one of the few genres our extensive slate of scripted TV had not tackled yet, " says Manuel Villanueva, general manager of Content at Mediaset Spain.
For Arantxa Écija, the group’s head of Scripted TV, State Secrets invites viewers to think about the extent to which the human element affects politics, and how the interests, ambitions and passions of those in power can affect the work of an entire government.
"Despite not being based on actual events, viewers are bound to spot similarities between what happens in our show and real people and events. This is because we intend to describe how the human factor taints, and sometimes even defeats, what politics should have of rational,” says Écija.
The cast includes Miryam Gallego, Emmanuel Esparza, Michelle Calvó, José Luis García Pérez and Jesús Castro, among others.
Norberto López Amado, Rafael Montesinos, Iñaki Peñafiel, Marco Castillo and Javier Giner serve as directors.
The series is a production by Mediaset España in partnership with Melodía Producciones, run by Frank Ariza, a production outfit with which the group has recently cut ties.
Apart from this title, Telecinco is yet to release several scripted originals: The anticipation of... seasons 11 and 12, season 2 of Vivir sin permiso, Desaparecidos, Madres, Caronte, Brigada Costa del Sol, El pueblo, Señoras del (h)AMPA and Lejos de ti (Lontano da te).
To be the link between the main players in the entertainment industry is not an easy task. It means creating a platform aimed at a group of highly informed and demanding professionals. But with great effort and commitment, we did it.
