This Monday in Mexico, Televisa's network Las Estrellas premiered Mi marido tiene familia, the Mexican adaptation of Korean series My Husband Got a Family, which became the clear leader in its debut with 3.9 million viewers, surpassing its competition by over 273%.
The team behind the adaptation gathered this Monday at Televisa's Foro 5 in San Ángel to watch the first episode of a telenovela that bets on comedy and family values, as described by its producer, Juan Osorio, to ttvnews.
"It's about family, full of values and above all an excellent cast," he said. "We are committed to giving 100% to this story. The content is very good and I believe it's a drama that the audience will relate to, especially its characters."
With 100 one-hour episodes, Osorio explained that Mi marido tiene familia combines the telenovela and series' formats, something he predicts will result in great success.
"And if the audience joins us, we could have a second season," he said.
Pablo Ferrer, one of the story's screenwriters, said to ttvnews that this is "a story that's closer to the audience", with "more current characters."
"It's what we're trying to show, a combination of drama and comedy. We hope people will identify with it," he said.
Héctor Bonilla, series director, said the story "covers interests for older generations, mature viewers, as well as younger viewers."
"It mixes drama and comedy and I think that's where the success lies," he said.
Writter Héctor Forero said "it was a thoughtful process, where we've given i tour all, being at the forefront to tell a very relatable story. All along the story we'll see how traditional mixes with liberal in a state like Oaxaca."
"It will be a very current telenovela in the way it's told, outside commercial structures. Each character has a story and their own path."
The cast features stars like Daniel Arenas, Silvia Pinal, Olivia Bucio, Rafael Inclán, Regina Orozco, Jessica Coch, René Casados, Juan Vidal, Federico Ayos and Gaby Platas, among others.
Mi marido tiene familia will air Mondays through Fridays at 8:30pm on Las Estrellas.
