Tondero Distribución was present at the last Miptv in Cannes with several original fiction series projects that are currently in development in Peru.
On the one hand, original series Clandestino and El tunel –both 10 episodes-, which are currently in development, with scripts, synopsis and pilots in production to be presented for the international market; in addition to a comedy series for a digital platform.
“We’ve come to this market with several original series in development,” Cecilia Gomez de la Torre, General Manager at Tondero Distribucion, said to ttvnews.
“We are development a few projects, some are more advanced than others with pilots already produced; such as Clandestino, which is very advanced,” she said.
Clandestino will be an action series with a narco theme, which will be filmed between Amazonia and Los Angeles.
“We’ve come with the bible, the synopsis and the characters’ profile for our new series El tunel, based on the hostage situation that took place at the Japanese embassy,” she said.
El tunel will recreate the hostage situation at the Japanese embassy in Peru in 1996. The team of writers is led by filmmaker Josué Méndez (El Chapo), with writer and journalist Santiago Roncagliolo (La cuarta espada) and Patricia Romero.
“El túnel recreates the hostage situation from several points of view. Why is it called El tunel? Because the government took several miners to dig a tunnel for months –without them knowing why- under neighboring homes, and that tunnel was used by the army to free the hostages from that hell,” she said.
The original production will have an international cast to represent all the international people that participated in this real event.
“There will be many points of view making the story very rich, something that’s never been done before and that’s based on real facts,” she said.
“On the one hand, you had international governments and on the other, political powers, the church, the hostages, the terrorists and finally, the miners digging the tunnel,” she said.
According to the executive, the next step will be to produce the pilot, followed by another production: a comedy series that they’re doing on commission and will soon be able to announce.
In addition, Tondero Films continues to premiere its original features, such as the comedy Intercambiadas, a film with a “universal tone”; and a new deal for the premiere of Locos de amor 2 on Netflix in LatAm and Spain.
“We are very happy with the deals we’re signing and the movies that will premiere worldwide, which is a major step for Tondero,” she said.
This year, the company is also planning to produce five new movies.
