The president of European football’s governing body Aleksander Čeferin confirmed the launch of an OTT service resulting from “historic partnership agreements.”

Confirming reports dating back months, UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) formally announced that it will launch its own OTT service within six months.

Thus, the governing body of European football is following in the footsteps of other big sports associations like Formula 1, LaLiga and the NBA, among others.

" We are fully aware that a revolution is under way," said Aleksander Čeferin, re-elected on Thursday as UEFA president until 2023, when announcing the launch. “And we are in the process of agreeing historic partnerships with the world’s leading companies in this field."

In addition, he added: " We have already started to move in this direction thanks to a sponsorship deal with the Alibaba Group. This partnership is more than a simple sponsorship deal. It’s a first agreement that opens up new horizons, such as the creation of a center of excellence in new football technologies or joint e-commerce projects".

Initially, the new streaming service will broadcast UEFA competitions in those countries where said tournaments are not available through other outlets.

Thus, it is expected that in Europe and the Americas the service will only only have minor European competitions available, given the existing contracts signed with broadcasters.
