According to the latest report from Arcatel, the pay-tv market in Ecuador closed the month of June with almost 1.31 million subscribers. Directv said goodbye to the second quarter of the year the biggest operator in the market.

DirecTV and CNT TV (National Telecommunications Corporation) control more than 65% of the Ecuadorian market, according to the most recent report from Ecuador's Telecommunications Regulation and Control Agency (Arcatel for its acronym in Spanish).

In general terms, the pay-tv market saw the end of this first quarter with almost 1.31 million subscribers; 40 thousand less than in 2015, year in which the market reached its peak.

The provinces of Pichincha and Guayas are the ones that present the highest number of subscribers, with more than 294 thousand and more than 310 thousand respectively.

The penetration of the service, in turn, dropped from 30.52% to 29.87%. As for estimated users, this drop represents more than 69 million users less for this year. As such, pay-tv in Ecuador shows a period of stability, in contrast to the last few years which have shown steady growth.

Between 2010 and 2015, the market multiplied times five, going from 300 thousand subscribers to 1.35 million subscribers. The Directv, an AT&T company, said goodbye to the second quarter of 2017 with 30 thousand more subscribers than it had at the beginning of the year, thus becoming the largest operator in the market (more than 470 thousand) clients.

According to Arcatel, Directv controls 36% of the pay-tv market in Ecuador, while CNT TV controls 29%. The public company appears as the second largest operator with more than 380 thousand subscribers.

In turn, Grupo TVCable remained stable with 190 thousand subscribers (14% quota), just like Claro TV, which also remained the same with 30 thousand subscribers.
