Joshua Mintz (TV Azteca) and Kelly Wright (Keshet International)
Both companies have announced during Mipcom a deal to co-develop and co-produce a new original super series in Spanish. The show will premiere on TV Azteca in 2018 and will be overseen by Joshua Mintz and Kelly Wright.
TV Azteca continues to deliver huge news during this edition of Mipcom. After the celebration of its 25th anniversary on Sunday and an official announcement on Monday on the launch of Dopamine, the company has made yet another announcement.
Alongside Keshet International, the companies have announced a scripted deal to co-develop and produce a new original Spanish-language super series (60 episodes) to air on TV Azteca in 2018.
The new series will be developed under the KI banner and co-produced with TV Azteca in house, while Keshet will handle the international distribution.
The development of the series will be led by Joshua Mintz, Deputy President of TV Azteca and Kelly Wright, VP Distribution and New Business, who will oversee the project on behalf of KI.
“Keshet has a reputation for producing scripted series that stand apart from the crowd,” said Joshua Mintz, TV Azteca. “We are genuinely excited about content we are going to create together.”
On her end, Kelly Wright – who also acts as director of KI for Latin America – mentioned that the development of original content is a priority for KI as they continue to expand throughout the region.
“We have a true 'meeting of minds' with TV Azteca since it is known for producing bold, daring series that resonate with audiences across not only Mexico but much of the world - something we strive for every time,” she commented.
We should point out that by early 2017 Keshet launched Keshet MX, its first production hub in Latin America with the aim of developing productions and deals with brands and broadcasters in the region.
A prime example of this is musical show Bandoleros, a show that came to life as a coproduction with Campanario Entertainment.
In addition, Keshet’s business with Latin American partners has grown exponentially in the last few years.
Among them are a development deal with Telemundo for a super series targeting the US Hispanic market, and the deal with Televisa for the adaptation of four of Keshet’s series in Mexico – Easy Money has already been produced under the title Mita y Mita and Loaded as MINT.
These join development deals in Argentina with Telefe; in Chile with Mega for the development of entertainment content; in Brazil with Globo for format Boxed; in Uruguay with Teledoce for talent show Master Class; and in Colombia with Caracol TV, which will launch game show Boom! next month.
Keshet is at Mipcom on stand R8.C9 and TV Azteca on stand R8.B10, both at the Riviera 8 at the Palais des Festivals.
To be the link between the main players in the entertainment industry is not an easy task. It means creating a platform aimed at a group of highly informed and demanding professionals. But with great effort and commitment, we did it.
