According to Parrot Analytics the Netflix series tops the list of the most popular shows in the United States based on "demand expressions", while Star Trek: Discovery, from CBS All Access, follows closely behind.

Stranger Things is Netflix's gift that keeps on giving. After a spectacular debut for its second season, the original series now comes as the most popular show in the United States, topping the list with a comfortable margin.

The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which reported on exclusive data from Parrot Analytics. Parrot has been measuring the popularity of series streamed by Netflix, Amazon and their competitors based on what they call "demand expressions."

Based on that, Stranger Things 2 spearheads the list and is followed closely behind by Star Trek: Discovery, from CBS All Access, which takes the fourth slot. This is important, because it's one of the rare times that two streaming platforms appear on the Top 5.

"We measure all of the demand in the marketplace. For two streamed shows to be in the top five again — it's a whole new world," said Samuel Stadler, VP Marketing at Parrot Analytics, who also mentioned another Netflix original, Mindhunter, placed on the sixth spot.

As for Stranger Things, the data from Parrot seems to be in line with the data from Nielsen, which recently began releasing viewership measurement of Netflix shows. According to them, 15.8 million people watched the season premiere of Stranger Things 2 within three days of its release, but the numbers haven't been authenticated by Netflix.

In addition, Parrot places the second season of Stranger Things as the most watched show in Venezuela and Argentina.
