According to data from Nielsen IBOPE, the return of The Academy, a TV Azteca original format, was followed by 2.5 million viewers and was the leading show in the adults 19-44 demographic.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary, and jumping in on the trend of bringing back old formats, TV Azteca premiered on Sunday the revival of original format The Academy on Azteca Uno.

And, as the network expected, audiences welcomed the show back with excitement. According to data from Nielsen IBOPE Mexico, 2.5 million viewers tuned in.

Although the numbers weren't enough to surpass the 3.5 million viewers achieved by the finale of Tenías que ser tú, they did place The Academy as the leading show in the adults 19-44 demographic with 1 million viewers above the 875,000 brought in by Televisa's telenovela.

In addition, on social media, the show was the main topic in Mexico, more commented even than the hit Luis Miguel biopic, which airs at the same time on Netflix.

In fact, according to Mexican media outlet AM, in just one hour La Academia tallied 35,000 mentions of Twitter, while Luis Miguel: The Series tallied 15,000.

First aired between 2002 and 2012 and with ten seasons under its belt, The Academy is one of TV Azteca's most iconic formats.

The revamped version is hosted by Adal Ramones and has names like Arturo López Gabito, Edith Márquez, Horacio Vollalobos and Edwin Luna, as members of the jury.

The show will have a total of 13 episodes, which will air Sundays at 8pm, and a very strong digital presence.

In addition to its broadcast on Azteca Uno, the show is aired simultaneously on AZ Mondo, an AZ TV de paga network in Central America, Latin America, and Europe. The format is distributed internationally by TV Azteca International.
