With new productions like 33 Days, La ruta Vol. 2: Ibiza, What Are You Waiting For?, and Las hijas de la criada, plus the return of the Atresmedia Day, the Spanish distributor will once again be the star of Iberseries & Platino Industria.
After an excellent nine months of the year, Atresmedia hopes to successfully complete a 2025 that has seen it lead the local TV market, produce fiction at a rapid pace and with fantastic results, and conquer audiences abroad, as demonstrated by the success of Ángela (6 x 50′) in Latin America on Netflix.
“Atresmedia’s content continues to attract many viewers both at home and abroad, as is the case with Ángela, whose premiere surpassed other original blockbusters on the American platform in many places,” said Miguel García Sánchez, Sales Director of Atresmedia Sales.
Atresmedia’s strength allows it to invest in all types of fiction, both new and proven hits -such as Sueños de libertad- as well as successful formats like El desafío, now in its fifth season.
Its distribution division once again posted excellent results this year, proving the solidity of its strategy: “The main factor driving us to continue increasing content production and distribution is the success we’ve achieved,” said García. “The Atresmedia Series label has established itself as a benchmark in quality, originality, and diversity, triumphing worldwide. This success is also thanks to the excellent professionals who work with us and the production companies we collaborate with on each project.”
“We continue to strive to reach as many territories and audiences as possible with a firm commitment to the international sales of our catalog,” he added.
A NEW ATRESMEDIA DAY
The new program Atresmedia presented at the 2024 edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria returns with a vengeance in 2025: on Tuesday, September 30th, Atresmedia Day will include the screening, on Segunda Ventana, of episodes of What Are You Waiting For?, La ruta Vol. 2: Ibiza, and Carles Porta’s highly anticipated series, 33 Days.
What Are You Waiting For? (8 x 50′) is the television adaptation of Megan Maxwell’s women’s novels: “After its success on Atresplayer, the series will premiere soon on Antena 3,” commented García. “It’s a series about two young people, the wealthy pilot Can and Sonia, a young, liberal publicist who, despite seeking no-strings-attached relationships and a life of singlehood without ties, end up falling in love and overcoming all barriers and prejudices.”
La ruta vol.2: Ibiza (6 x 50′), is the continuation of the acclaimed series by Caballo Films, set in Ibiza, the cradle of techno music in the early 2000s. “In this new season we will see the evolution and new life of Marc, played by Alex Monner, after leaving behind his native Valencia and the Ruta del Bakalao, which we discovered during the first season of the series,” shared the executive.
33 Days (6 x 50′), meanwhile, is a new project from Atresmedia in collaboration with Carles Porta, starring Juan Manuel Poga (Money Heist) and Julián Villagrán (A muerte). “It’s the first fiction about the famous case of the escape of two prisoners in 2001,” explained García. “Two tough guys who dream of freedom and would give their lives for each other, in a friendship that sometimes feels more like a love story. An escape that kept Spain in jeopardy for 33 long days.”
Atresmedia Day will also include a cocktail reception sponsored by the company, during which there will be a special presentation of the first images of Las hijas de la criada, the television adaptation of the novel of the same name by Sonsoles Ónega, winner of the 2023 Planeta Prize.
“Las hijas de la criada (8 x 50′) is a blockbuster, an exclusive series from Atresmedia in collaboration with Buendía Estudios that is currently in post-production and that we will premiere on Atresplayer in the coming months,” explained García. “Starring Verónica Sánchez (El embarcadero, Ángela) and Carlota Baró (El secreto del Puente Viejo), it tells the story of two daughters, Clara and Catalina, born into the home of a wealthy family in Galicia at the beginning of the 20th century. Clara is the daughter of the maid, Renata, while Catalina is the daughter of the Valdés family, Don Gustavo and Doña Inés.”
In the series, an unexpected revenge will shake up the lives of these girls and all of them, and will force Doña Inés to survive heartbreak and the pain of abandonment. She will also have to survive the power struggles to turn her real daughter into the heir to an empire, in an era when women weren’t allowed to control their own lives.
SIRA, THE SEQUEL OF THE TIME IN BETWEEN
With the return of Adriana Ugarte as Sira Quiroga, the spin-off of the successful The Time In Between was confirmed.
“We are thrilled with the news that The Time Between Seams will continue with this new series and we are sure it will be a success,” commented García. “We can only say that it will be a great Buendía Estudios production filmed in different parts of the world, recreating and adapting Maria Dueñas’s best-selling novel for television.”
Sira, executive produced by Dueñas, will be broadcast locally on Atresmedia and internationally on Netflix. Regarding international distribution, Atresmedia Sales will have the rights “in the territories and under the conditions permitted by our collaboration agreement with Netflix for this project,” García emphasized.
