Inspired by India’s classical mythology, the production reimagines the story of Krishna for global audiences and is being positioned as a multi-platform franchise.
PowerKids Entertainment and Cayenne Pepper Productions announced the development of The Blue Boy Chronicles, an animated series inspired by India’s classical mythology that aims to bring the story of Krishna to international audiences.
The project is a co-production between Singapore-based PowerKids Entertainment and Las Vegas-based Cayenne Pepper Productions, and is planned for a global rollout across television, streaming, licensing, and consumer products.
The series reimagines Krishna not as a distant divine figure, but as a young hero navigating magical adventures while exploring themes such as friendship, identity, and responsibility. While rooted in Indian cultural tradition, the storytelling approach is designed to resonate with international audiences.
The concept and original story come from Swati Bhisé, an international producer and founder of Cayenne Pepper Productions, recognized for bringing culturally rooted stories to the global market. She partners on the project with Manoj Mishra, CEO and MD of PowerKids Entertainment, who is leading the co-production and overseeing animation production and international distribution.
“The Krishna saga originates in India’s classical mythology, but its themes are universal. With The Blue Boy Chronicles, we are building a series that retains its cultural foundation while being structured for global scale from day one,” added Manoj Mishra.
Targeted at kids aged 5 and up — with a core audience of 6 to 13 — the series will be produced in English and Hindi. In this version, Krishna appears as a mischievous yet emotionally aware protagonist, while classic mythological characters are reinterpreted with contemporary motivations.
The script is written by Canadian writers Jeff Sager and Eric Steinhart, who bring an international storytelling perspective while preserving the cultural foundation of the original narrative.
The original score will be composed by Dipankar Chaki, a two-time National Film Award winner in India, a Filmfare Award recipient, and a recent BAFTA awardee.
Currently in production, The Blue Boy Chronicles is positioned as a multi-platform franchise aiming to bring culturally rooted stories from India to the global animation stage.
