Following the completion of production, the film will begin its festival run before its theatrical release.

Somos Films and Divarte Cine have announced the completion of production on Encrucijadas, a new drama feature filmed in Caracas, Venezuela, adding another title to the catalog of the company led by Ivanna Villanueva and part of Somos Group.

Directed by José Antonio Varela, the film stars Rubén León, Varinia Arraíz, Adolfo Nittoli, Karen Rosales, Moisés Berr, Alejandra Sandoval and Jackson Gutiérrez. The production portrays life in Caracas’ working-class neighborhoods through a story marked by violence, family conflict and second chances.

The plot follows Nazaret, a man who returns to his community after serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking, hoping to rebuild his life and reconnect with Carmen, his former love. Instead, he finds a very different reality, in an environment shaped by corruption, betrayal and violence.

The film received support from Venezuela’s National Autonomous Center of Cinematography (CNAC) and marks the 17th production from Somos Films, which since 2018 has developed feature films in countries including Venezuela, Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and Peru.

Encrucijadas is produced by Vladimir Sosa Sarabia, with executive producers Luis Villanueva, Ivanna Villanueva, Thaelman Urgelles, Priscila Guía, Alejandro Medina and José Antonio Varela. Following the completion of production, the film will begin its festival run before its theatrical release.

“We expect Encrucijadas to be very well received by audiences across all windows. The film features a highly contemporary story, a setting that will be familiar to Latin American viewers, and a cast of outstanding artistic and dramatic talent,” said Luis Villanueva.

He added that the film becomes part of the Somos Films catalog and the company’s slate of titles available to content distributors and platforms worldwide.

José Antonio Varela commented: “I am very happy to be close to releasing my seventh feature film and my fourth together with Somos Films. With this movie, I return to some of the social concerns I explored in my first film, La Clase. It is a very personal project through which I express some of my concerns about the society in which I live.”
