Handan Özkubat, the group’s Director of Turkish Drama, shared details with ttvnews about the acquisition of the rights to King Shakir (Kral Şakir) and Super Team (Süper Bir Takım), produced by Grafi2000 Productions, marking a new major step for the company.

International distributor Eccho Rights announced the acquisition of the worldwide television and film rights to the Turkish animated franchises King Shakir (Kral Şakir) and Super Team (Süper Bir Takım), both produced by Grafi2000 Productions.

This agreement represents a strategic step for the company, expanding its catalog beyond drama series and strengthening its presence in the animation sector with two of Turkey’s most successful children’s properties.

Eccho Rights began presenting both titles to international buyers at the recent edition of NEM Dubrovnik, where Handan Özkubat, Director of Turkish Drama, spoke with ttvnews about the groundbreaking deal.

“It’s not just about animation for children,” the executive stated. “Animation is something families can watch together, as well as adults on their own. But it’s not adult anime; it’s suitable for the whole family.”

“Our clients around the world mostly prefer content they can watch together as a family,” she added. “Because they can watch other content, mainly on streaming platforms, according to their individual preferences. But this animation is for families, and it’s a very strong title. It’s from Turkey, and it’s a very important brand.”

This deal also marks Eccho Rights’ first foray into theatrical distribution rights. “We would like to explore, for the first time, the opportunity that Eccho Rights offers for theatrical distribution rights.”

“We are trying to diversify how we manage the business. We don’t focus solely on Turkish series. Of course, Turkish series are our core product, but we also have other high-quality content that our buyers can broadcast. And their audiences can enjoy it as a family.”

The executive anticipated that new deals for the titles would be finalized after her visit to NEM. “We know our buyers. We know what they buy. They don’t just buy Turkish series. They also buy other content. And we know what they need based on our acquisition strategy. Lately, we’ve also observed a growing interest in the market for films, not just TV series.”

“Because in Europe, commissions for English-language series have decreased by almost 40%,” she continued. “This is due to the economic crisis following the pandemic. Therefore, channels need filler content for their programming. We try to be as helpful as possible to our buyers. We want to ensure that when they visit us, they find all the content they need. But it’s always content they can broadcast without hesitation,” she explained.

King Shakir, created by Varol Yaşaroğlu for Cartoon Network Turkey, is the country’s longest-running and most successful animated series. Since its premiere in 2016, it has amassed 400 episodes across ten seasons and spawned four feature films. The franchise has also established itself as a box office phenomenon, with its second film surpassing two million viewers.

Meanwhile, Super Team, also created and produced by Yaşaroğlu, has 52 episodes and continues to expand its universe with the recent theatrical release of Süper Bir Takım: Varol Abi’nin Çizgi Film Makinesi, which premiered in late May 2026.

Under the agreement, Eccho Rights will manage the worldwide television rights for both franchises, as well as the film rights for the four King Shakir movies and the new Super Team feature film.
