The Mexican thriller directed by Chava Cartas debuted at number one on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Language Movies chart, with 18 million views in its first week, and reached the Top 10 in 90 countries.

La Captura, a Mexican action thriller directed by Chava Cartas, became Netflix’s most-watched non-English language premiere of 2026, after reaching 18 million views during its first week on the platform.

The film debuted at number one on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Language Movies chart and entered the Top 10 in 90 countries. It also reached number one in 24 markets, including Argentina, Portugal, and Switzerland.

The performance positions La Captura as the most-watched non-English language title in its first week of release on Netflix in 2026 and reinforces the international reach of a Mexican production within the platform’s global catalog.

Starring Alfonso Herrera, Noé Hernández, Héctor Kotsifakis, Paola Fernández, and Juan Pablo Cruz García, the film is inspired by one of the most significant episodes in recent Mexican history: the capture of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán.

The story centers on two federal police officers who, during a routine patrol in Los Mochis, Sinaloa, stop a stolen vehicle and find themselves face to face with the country’s most wanted criminal. From this encounter, the film explores the dilemma between fulfilling their duty or accepting a reward that could change their lives.

“I am very proud to be part of such an interesting project with a different perspective on our country,” said Chava Cartas, director of La Captura.

Carolina Leconte, VP of Content in Mexico and Licensing for Latin America at Netflix, highlighted the production’s reception: “Although we dreamed of a good result, the audience response has been spectacular.”

The success of La captura adds to the growing international performance of Mexican productions on global platforms and demonstrates the potential of local content to reach massive audiences outside its market of origin.
