The Turkish version of the hit telenovela Looks & Essence is set to premiere in September.
Following the global success of Leyla, the first international adaptation of Brazil Avenue which has already been sold to more than 100 countries, Globo is strengthening its relationship with Turkish production company Ay Yapım by announcing the renewal of their partnership.
The new agreement includes the development of three additional titles from Globo’s catalog, further consolidating the company’s format licensing strategy.
The first confirmed project is the Turkish adaptation of the hit telenovela Looks & Essence, which will be titled Ömür Usta in Turkey. Scheduled to premiere in September on Now TV, the same channel that aired Leyla, the series will once again be directed by Hilal Saral, who returns to helm a production inspired by Globo’s catalog after her work on Leyla.
Originally broadcast in Globo’s primetime slot in 2011 and written by acclaimed author Aguinaldo Silva, creator of iconic productions such as Anything Goes, Tieta, and Roque Santeiro, Looks & Essence explores the contrast between appearance and character, questioning what truly holds value in contemporary society. The story follows Griselda Pereira (played by Lília Cabral in the original Brazilian version), a hardworking woman who supports her family by performing household repairs as a “handyman-for-hire.”
In 2013, the story was adapted into Spanish by Telemundo under the title Marido en Alquiler. Now, the narrative receives a Turkish interpretation through Ay Yapım, the studio behind internationally acclaimed productions such as Fatmagül, Forbidden Love, Endless Love (Kara Sevda), and Family Secrets.
International distribution of the new adaptations will continue to be handled by Madd Entertainment, a leading distributor of Turkish content in the global market. In Brazil, the new adaptations may also become available across Globo’s platforms, including Globoplay and Globoplay Novelas TV channel.
“This partnership reinforces the global appeal of Brazilian storytelling. Working with Ay Yapım demonstrates how open we are to new business models and creative collaborations. The success of Leyla reflects the universal nature of our narratives, and we are excited to see more Globo stories come to life in other cultures,” said Angela Colla, Head of International Business at Globo.
