The local adaptation, produced by IKO Productions, follows the format’s recent launch in Spain with Mediacrest and Telemadrid.

TelevisaUnivision continues the international expansion of C.D.I.: Código de investigaciónwith a new adaptation in Hungary. TV2, one of the country’s leading broadcasters, will air Lezárt akták – a bűn nyomában (Closed Files: On the Trail of Crime), produced by IKO Productions and currently in post-production.

The Hungarian adaptation will explore high-impact criminal cases from across the country through a combination of investigation, expert testimony and dramatic reconstructions. The show will be hosted by András Stohl, one of Hungary’s best-known television personalities, and will also feature Péter Doszpot, a former homicide detective.

Originally developed by TelevisaUnivision, C.D.I.: Código de investigación combines journalistic investigation, testimonials, expert analysis and studio discussion in a true crime format designed for television.

The Hungarian deal follows the recent launch of La Huella del Crimen in Spain, an adaptation produced by Mediacrest for Telemadrid, further expanding the format’s international footprint.

“C.D.I. brings together many of the things we look for in a format: an easy-to-understand concept, strong execution and the flexibility for each market to make it its own. TV2 and IKO Productions are bringing that foundation to Hungary with great ambition,” said Guillermo Borensztein, SVP Content Licensing at TelevisaUnivision.

The executive added that the new adaptation demonstrates “the potential we see in the IP,” and previewed further announcements following Mipcom.

Gábor Fischer, Deputy CEO of TV2 Media Group, highlighted the genre’s potential to connect with local audiences. “With true crime, our goal is to offer audiences compelling, high-quality stories that are both engaging and thought-provoking. We strongly believe in the strength of this format and hope it will become a long-term success, with many seasons on air,” he said.

The Hungarian deal further strengthens TelevisaUnivision’s strategy of expanding its entertainment and unscripted formats through local adaptations. The company also distributes the original version of C.D.I.: Código de investigación in Uruguay, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic and Canada.
