SVT acquired the Swedish second-window rights to Queen Silvia, while ZDF joined La Vida Barcelona as a co-production partner, marking two key deals for Beta Film ahead of Mipcom 2026.
Beta Film has announced new international deals for two of its featured dramas: royal drama Queen Silvia and La Vida Barcelona. Swedish public broadcaster SVT acquired the second-window rights to Queen Silvia following its premiere on Prime Video, while German public broadcaster ZDF joined La Vida Barcelona as a co-production partner alongside Beta Film and Millstreet Films.
Produced by Pyjama Pictures and Unlimited Stories for Prime Video in the DACH region and the Nordics, as well as Sat.1, Queen Silvia tells the love story of Silvia Sommerlath, a German-Brazilian interpreter played by Alicia von Rittberg (Charité, Becoming Elisabeth), and Swedish Crown Prince Carl Gustaf, portrayed by Edvin Endre (The Playlist, Vikings).
The series begins with their encounter at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and follows the development of their relationship across Munich, Stockholm and the French Riviera, exploring the challenges of balancing love, royal duties and personal ambitions.
The series is directed by Miguel Alexandre (Sisi, Gran Paradiso), who co-wrote the screenplay with Lisa Hofer and Pauline Wolff. Carsten Kelber serves as showrunner, with Tina Ermuth, Frank Buchs, Kelber, Emil Wiklund, Manya Lutz-Moneim and Justus Riesenkampff as executive producers. The production is supported by the German Motion Picture Fund (GMPF), Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and FilmFörderung Bayern (FFF).

Queen Silvia will hold its world premiere on Tuesday, October 13, at the Grand Auditorium of the Palais des Festivals in Cannes during Mipcom 2026.
Meanwhile, La Vida Barcelona explores Barcelona’s creative scene through a coming-of-age story centered on ambition, identity, love and the courage to forge one’s own path. The series stars Holly Mae Brood, alongside Priscilla Delgado (Euphoria) and Greta Fernández (The Walking Dead).
The story follows Julia, a young Dutch designer sent to Barcelona by her influential mother on a secret mission to undermine a rival agency. However, the city soon turns her plans upside down as she discovers new professional opportunities, a different way of life and two unexpected romances.
The series is directed by Katina Medina Mora (Emily in Paris, The Summer I Turned Pretty), Charlotte Scott-Wilson (Hold On) and Ayla Spaans (Rakhi & Peppe, When We Were Strangers). Rachel van Bommel produces through Millstreet Films, the company behind Máxima.
ZDF joins the project as an international co-production partner. Currently in post-production, the series is produced by Millstreet Films for Dutch streaming platform Videoland. The cast also includes Martiño Rivas (The Boarding School) and Agustín Della Corte (Society of the Snow). The scripts were written by Emily Reekers, Jikkie Schelling and Alix van der Goes.
The production is supported by the Netherlands Film Fund Production Incentive, the Spanish tax rebate and the Creative Europe Media program. Nestor Hernandez serves as executive producer for Beta Film.
The German company handles international sales for both titles.
