The Portuguese adaptation of Brazil Avenue (Avenida Brasil), titled Avenida Portugal, will begin filming in November and is expected to premiere in March 2027, taking over from Chapters of Life (Páginas da Vida) on SIC.
“We’re very happy. The main cast has already been announced, and we couldn’t have chosen better actors. It’s going to have a phenomenal leading couple, and we’re all very excited,” said Carlota Vieira, Manager at SIC International Distribution, speaking with ttv during Mipcom 2026.
Produced by SP Televisão, the new telenovela will star Laura Dutra as Nina, José Condessa as Jorginho, Ricardo Pereira as Tufão and Margarida Vila-Nova as Carminha. The cast also includes Afonso Pimentel (Max), Sara Matos (Suelen), Madalena Almeida (Débora) and Ana Sofia Martins (Zezé).
“I believe Brazil Avenue could become the most successful project we’ve ever shared with Globo,” Vieira said. The production will succeed Chapters of Life, the Portuguese adaptation of the Brazilian telenovela originally written by Manoel Carlos, which is currently airing on SIC.
“[This strategy] is working very well for us. We started adapting international scripts because these are stories that have already proved successful in other markets and provide a very strong foundation for developing our own versions,” she explained.
This strategy has also led SIC to adapt three Turkish dramas for its primetime schedule. The first was A Promessa (Broken Promise), based on Kanal D’s Ruthless City (Zalim İstanbul). It was followed by Vitória, adapted from Gülperi, produced by TIMS&B Productions and distributed by Global Agency. The most recent is Destino Maior (A Greater Destiny), based on Hicran, distributed by Inter Medya.
“Vitória won the Best Telenovela award in Venice this year, and it’s generating a lot of international interest and sales. We’re very happy with the results of these adaptations,” she said. The SP Televisão production won Best Telenovela at the 2026 Venice TV Awards and was recently acquired by Canada’s OMNI Television, where it is scheduled to premiere in November.
A Longstanding Relationship with Globo
Vieira recalled that the partnership between SIC and Globo dates back to the Portuguese broadcaster’s establishment in 1992, when the Brazilian company was among its shareholders. “Globo has been our partner for many, many years. It was one of SIC’s shareholders when the channel launched, alongside the Balsemão family. We have an almost family-like connection, a historic relationship,” she said.
The executive also addressed MediaForEurope’s investment process in Impresa, SIC’s parent company, and its potential implications for the broadcaster’s content strategy. “Mediaset has operations in Spain and Italy, with different programming strategies, and each maintains its own characteristics. I believe Portugal will follow the same approach,” she added.
