The highly anticipated original production by HBO Spain will present its first images during the San Sebastian Film Festival.

HBO Spain announced Thursday that the filming of its anticipated production, Patria, the adaptation of the book by Fernando Aramburu, ended its filming in the month of August.

It had begun in March of this year and lasted 20 weeks in locations in the Basque Country and Madrid.

In addition, the OTT revealed that the first images of the series will be released on September 21, within the framework of the San Sebastian Film Festival in a panel that will feature the creator and screenwriter of the series, Aitor Gabilondo, actresses Elena Irureta and Ane Gabarain, who give life to Bittori and Miren, respectively, and executive producers from HBO Europe, Miguel Salvat and Steve Matthews.

Other members of the main cast will also be present, such as Elena Irureta, Ane Gabarain, José Ramón Soroiz, Mikel Laskurain, Iñigo Arambarri, Susana Abaitua, Jon Olivares, Loreto Mauleón and Eneko Sagardoy.

Produced by Alea Media (producer owned by Mediaset Spain), Patria is the adaptation of Fernando Aramburu’s novel, an editorial phenomenon between public and critics.

The story takes place over three decades in the Basque Country. Through its protagonists – two families divided by the consequences of terrorism -, Patria narrates how ordinary people live in the context of a conflict that despite being local has numerous common elements with any confrontation in many parts of the world.

The series will feature eight one-hour episodes, written and produced by Aitor Gabilondo, creator of series such as The Prince or Living without permission.

The release of Patria is scheduled for 2020. Its launch will be simultaneous in all the territories of HBO Europe, and will also be released on HBO Latin America.

The series will be available to HBO subscribers in the US through the HBO Go, HBO Now, HBO On Demand, and other channel distributors.

In addition to Patria, HBO Spain works in three other recently announced original series: 30 coins, by Álex de la Iglesia; Foodie Love, by Isabel Coixet; and Por H o por B, next to Lacoproductora.

The OTT has also premiered the documentary series El pionero.
