BBC Studios announced that the 2021 edition of its traditional BBC Showcase will be 100% virtual.

Without a clear picture yet for the beginning of 2021, BBC Studios announced this Thursday that the 2021 edition of its traditional BBC Showcase will be 100% virtual.

It will be held between February 22 and 24.

The event is traditionally held in the British city of Liverpool, with invited buyers from around the world. The 45th edition, on the other hand, will be purely online.

From the BBC, Paul Dempsey, president of the global distribution division of BBC Studios, explained that the decision was made because “it is not fair to make our clients travel in such uncertain times.”

And as they anticipated, the online version will be made on an “innovative” platform with “cutting edge technology” that will allow buyers to access the company’s scripted and unscripted content, as well as formats and talents.

BBC Studios is expected to premiere content such as This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay and produced by Sister (Chernobyl) in association with Terrible Productions; and The Green Planet, from BBC Studios’ Natural History unit.

This is the second digital initiative announced by BBC Studios, which last week announced the launch of a virtual platform for Mipcom 2020.
