The award-winning telenovela will be dubbed in neutral Spanish for Latin American audiences.

Cote Ouest, the leading distributor of content for and from Africa, has announced that it will be bringing multiple award-winning African telenovela Legacy, dubbed in Neutral Spanish, for Latin America.

Produced by Multichoice Studios in South Africa, Legacy has been widely praised for its compelling storytelling and exceptional production values. Legacy is the very first African novela to be dubbed into Neutral Spanish for the purpose of serving Latin American audiences, and thus will pioneer an effort to respond to the growing demand in the region for more diversified content and for high-end international drama available in local language.

The novela follows the story of a wealthy family who must navigate the complexities of power, politics, and family dynamics in the wake of the patriarch’s sudden death. A critical and commercial success across Africa, Legacy has won multiple awards for its writing, directing, and acting, but has also widely stood out for its compelling plotlines, intricate characters, and its nuanced portrayal of complex issues such as race, class, and gender.

“We are excited to be working with Cote Ouest to bring Legacy to Latin America,” said Mauro Black of Multichoice Studios. “It is a series that we are incredibly proud of, and we believe that it has the power to captivate audiences around the world. We are thrilled to see how it will be received in Latin America.”

Latin American and African audiences share several similarities in their societal characteristics and values. Both regions have gone through a history of colonization, struggle for independence, and racial oppression, which has shaped their social, political, and cultural landscapes. The distribution of African content in Latin America is not only about providing entertainment but also about promoting cultural exchange and understanding, while supporting on-screen representation and increasing diversity in media.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Legacy to Latin America with a Spanish dub, making it accessible for the first time to Latin audiences,” said Kimberley Azria, who handles Business Development for Cote Ouest. “It is a truly exceptional telenovela that showcases the very best of African storytelling and production values. We feel that it has a high potential to travel outside of its domestic market and that it will especially resonate with audiences across Latin America”

Cote Ouest’s decision to bring Legacy to Latin America is an important step towards building a more diverse and inclusive media landscape that reflects the diversity and richness of the world we live in. Legacy is an extraordinary showcase of the incredible talent and creativity that exists in Africa and its distribution in Latin America will be an important milestone that can pave the way for more premium African content to assert its place and relevance in the region.

Kimberley Azria added “Twenty years ago Cote Ouest was the first to bring Latin American telenovelas to African audiences, which are to this day still scoring some the highest audience records throughout our continent. Today we must recognize the incredible aptitudes of our local talents in adopting the novela genre and making it their own by creating African telenovelas such as Legacy. We are convinced that the same ingredients which made Latin telenovelas so successful in African markets will make African telenovelas equally as successful in Latin America”.

Legacy will soon be available for acquisition in Latin America.
