At Content Americas in Miami, Darío Turovelzky, CEO of Telefe, gave a keynote interview in which he revealed his vision for the new phase of Argentina’s leading broadcaster.

Following its acquisition in October by a local media holding company, Telefe is entering a phase marked by greater market openness and a renewed focus on collaboration, with opportunities encompassing production, co-production, distribution, strategic alliances, and digital innovation.

With 14 consecutive years of leadership in Argentina, Telefe is the leading entertainment brand in its market, with an ecosystem that includes sports, streaming, consumer products, entertainment, fiction, news, digital platforms, and a powerful production hub equipped with state-of-the-art technological infrastructure.

“Telefe is the leading channel with almost 50% of the audience share,” Turovelzky began his keynote address, in which he detailed the strategic priorities guiding this new phase and how Telefe seeks to expand its international reach, positioning itself as an active partner for the global industry within a context of audiovisual ecosystem transformation and multiplatform expansion.

“Today in Latin America there are major production hubs, including Telefe. We have produced projects for the UK, Spain, for platforms like Netflix, and for companies like Fremantle,” the executive continued.

“Thinking about Telefe Studios, today we have a library of IPs that includes Sres Papis, one of the top 5 most adapted series worldwide,” he stated. “Today we are open to co-producing; exploring new ideas from anywhere,” highlighting his trip to Korea, where vertical content is booming. “I just came back from Korea, which is one of the places where vertical series are a billion-dollar market. We are exploring that here as well.”

The executive spoke about the new phase they are beginning and what the previous one taught them in terms of growth and experience. “The time with Paramount taught us a lot about the world of streaming and AVOD. Now, with a local owner, everything is happening much faster. The new owners are eager to invest and grow the brand.”

In this regard, Turovelzky listed the key words they have in mind to continue this growth: “Flexibility, the ability to adapt our business models without getting stuck. Experience, not just as creators of experiences, but because of what we have already accomplished. And efficiency, which sometimes sounds like cutting corners, but it’s one of the greatest assets we have in the industry.”

“Of course, without neglecting talent and recognized IPs,” he added. “We have many IPs that are very successful, with many years of history.”

“The human capital and talent we have in Argentina, and at Telefe, is exceptional. Today, we need more tax-rebate agreements or fiscal incentives. We’re in a position where we’re going to make every effort to compete with territories that offer better financial tools,” he explained.

Looking ahead, the executive announced that the group will be participating in the Iberseries & Platino Industria pitch, where they will be “open to receiving ideas, for Telefe and for others.”
