New opportunities and challenges presented by technological evolution and AI, and the shift in production and viewing models in the face of the growth of the creative economy, were the main topics discussed during the two-day pre-Mipcom event in Cannes.

With a focus on engaging panels and active networking, MIP Junior took place at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes for the two days of its 2025 edition.

As everything prepares for the start of Mipcom, which will run from Monday to Thursday, MIP Junior offered an agenda of activities with top-tier speakers, such as Kim Miller Oko, Global CMO of Toys R Us and President of Toys R Us Studio, who gave a keynote on Saturday, the first day of the event.

As will be the case during Mipcom, YouTube had a prominent presence with multiple panels, such as the sessions “YouTube and Miraculous Corp: Streaming Bigger Together”, about the alliance between the two groups; and “From YouTube to TV: How the Creator Economy is Driving Original IP for Children,” which analyzed the role of the creator economy in the industry.

Overall, the impact of the digital universe on the world of children’s content, monetization, and the need for more co-productions were the most discussed aspects at the event.

There were also spaces for screenings and showcases, such as the world premiere of Ki&Hi in the Panda Kingdom, by Mediawan Kids & Family, Drawsome Studios, and Belvision; and the presentation of five Korean animations by KOCCA.

READY FOR MIPCOM

Although the event begins tomorrow, many companies participating in Mipcom are already in Cannes preparing for meetings and events.

This is the case with Paramount Global Content Distribution, which premiered Boston Blue, the highly anticipated spinoff from the universe of the hit long-running drama Blue Bloods, alongside lead and executive producer Donnie Wahlberg and star Sonequa Martin-Green. The world premiere comes ahead of the series’ premiere on CBS this week, on Friday, October 17 in the US.

That evening, Globo celebrated its 100th anniversary with an exclusive event at the Carlton Hotel in Cannes, hosted by Cecilia Malan, journalist and Globo’s foreign correspondant; Angela Colla, Head of International Business and Coproductions; Alex Medeiros, Head of Drama, Documentaries and Film for Globoplay’s Original Productions; Gabriel Jacome, Director of TV Content.

Mipcom will open its doors tomorrow, Monday, October 13, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes.
