UK-based distribution company Orange Smarty arrives at Mipcom with a strong slate of factual programming, spanning genres from arts and history to science, lifestyle, and current affairs — and two standout titles leading its lineup this week.
“We specialise in factual content, selling it across the world to all territories,” said Karen Young, CEO of Orange Smarty. “Our catalogue includes arts, history, lifestyle, science, current affairs — and even a bit of sport.”
One of the highlights of this year’s market is a new travel and adventure series set in Venezuela, fronted by Michael Palin, one of the original members of Monty Python. The three-part series follows Palin on an epic journey across Venezuela, meeting local communities, exploring the country’s landscapes, and delving into its culture. The production is the latest in a long line of travel documentaries by Palin, who has previously explored regions such as Iraq, North Korea, and Nigeria.
Orange Smarty is also bringing to Cannes one of its most powerful recent documentaries: Teen Predator: Online Killer, a one-hour investigative film that examines the shocking case of a man who pretended to be a woman online to befriend and blackmail vulnerable young people across multiple countries,
“Crime remains one of the most popular genres today,” Young noted. “It surged during the pandemic and continues to attract huge audiences.” The film exposes how the perpetrator exploited time zones to target victims globally — from Latin America to Australia and New Zealand — leading in some tragic cases to victims taking their own lives.
With its diverse and socially resonant slate, Orange Smarty continues to consolidate its reputation as a key player in the global factual distribution landscape.
