The nordic streaming service launched officially in the US and is priced at $5.99 per month

Viaplay, the streaming service focused on Nordic content, is launching today in the US. The service is priced at $5.99 per month, includes a seven-day free trial, and is planning ot extend its reach to Canada in March 7th.

Viaplay offers thousands of hours of curated content from the Nordic region. The service features series, films and documentaries, focused largely on psychological series from the region in a genre known as Nordic Noir. All film and TV content is subtitled in English. Its North American debut also comes with exclusive premieres of more than 50 premium series and films.

Dramas like the Danish Trom, the Norwegian Furia and the Swedish Threesome are exclusives of the service.

At launch the service will be available to stream via iOS and Android mobile apps, Chromecast devices, apps across smart TVs, Android TV, Google TV, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, as well as through Comcast’s Xfinity and Xumo platforms, and offered as one of the premium subscription options on The Roku Channel.

On April 22, 2022 the MeteoHeroes make their broadcast debut on PBS with an Earth Day Special. A companion series, Real Superheroes Don’t Wear Capes, executive produced by Kenn Viselman, will premiere in late summer 2022.

Mondo TV Studios, part of Mondo TV Group, and global family mega-hit maker Kenn Viselman (Teletubbies, Thomas the Tank Engine), are to partner to bring Mondo’s award-winning world-wide phenomenon MeteoHeroes to the United States and Canada.

MeteoHeroes has already sold into 144 countries and 22 languages. In Italy it is now among the most successful Cartoonito children’s series of all time. It has enjoyed similar success in Spain on Clan. The World Premiere of the second season of MeteoHeroes (52 episodes x 13 ‘) will air on Cartoonito in Italy in April 2022.

The award-winning series, which was recently honoured at the 30th annual Kids First! Film Festival, is about a group of six pint-sized superheroes, each of whom represents a different continent and a different natural element. Working in tandem to fight climate change disasters, our fearless heroes go to battle to save our planet, using their own unique superhuman abilities that can control weather phenomena.

With humour and respect for its audience, the series sends the important message to children that you don’t need superpowers to save the world. MeteoHeroes is the only children’s series dedicated entirely to climate and environmental issues. Each episode focuses on issues related to ecology and respect for nature.

North American distribution and marketing for both the series and the first Mondo/Viselman collaboration, the videogame MeteoHeroes – Saving Planet Earth for Sony PlayStation, will be managed by Kenn Viselman’s itsy bitsy Entertainment Company (TibECo) in partnership with the show’s co-producers Mondo TV S.p.A and leading weather forecasting centre Meteo Operations Italia (MOPI). Viselman will also personally serve as showrunner and executive producer of the Americanized version of the series for a North American audience.

This is a very significant deal for Mondo TV Studios, as it brings one of the company’s most successful productions to the vast North American market for the first time. The successful series Invisible Heroes, Conspiracy of Silence and Honour will premiere on Topic, the new streaming service launching on November 21, 2019 in the US and Canada.

Eccho Rights announced it has sold a trio of Scandinavian titles to Topic, a new streaming service launching on November 21, 2019 in the United States and Canada.

First, highly successful Swedish drama Honour, which was recently renewed for a second season, premiered on Viaplay in August to record-breaking viewing figures.

It follows four talented female lawyers fighting for justice for those who need it most: women who are weak, abused, and ignored by the rest of society. Despite their success, these women have their own dark secret, one that could threaten everything that they’ve worked so hard to build.

Based on an idea by Sofia Helin the series was developed together with Alexandra Rapaport, Julia Dufvenius and Anja Lundqvist who also star. The series is produced by Stockholm-based production company Bigster (co-headed by Rapaport).

Coming from Sweden as well is the gripping thriller Conspiracy of Silence produced by Brain Academy. Directed by Charlotte Brändström, known around the world for her work on acclaimed series such as Outlander, the series explores the murky world of the international arms trade.

Starring Jens Hultén as a former weapons dealer forced into exile, who returns to Sweden on a quest for vengeance, the story highlights both the shattered personal lives that the weapons business leaves in its wake, and the moral hypocrisy that allows the trade to flourish. The series premiered on Viaplay in September 2018.

Lastly, Award-winning series Invisible Heroes follows the remarkable exploits of Finnish diplomat Tapani Brotherus who, working in secret, helped secure asylum in Europe for more than 2 000 Chilean citizens whose lives were under threat following General Pinochet’s military coup in 1973.

The series was commissioned in a unique collaboration between Finnish broadcaster YLE and Chilevisión with a successful run in Finland this spring and an upcoming launch this fall in Chile. Recently, the drama was awarded the Mini-Series Silver Bird Prize at this year’s Seoul Drama Awards as well as the Special Jury Award at the Festival de la Fiction in La Rochelle.

Furthermore, Invisible Heroes was nominated for the Venice TV Awards as Best TV Series and was part of the lineup of the Serial Killer Festival in Brno, the Serielizados Fest in Barcelona and the Göteborg Film Festival.
