An historical partner of Côte Ouest, part of MEDIAWAN Africa, for over 25 years, Globo will be alongside Côte Ouest for the second consecutive year at the 4th edition of MIP AFRICA, which will be held from September 1st to 3rd, 2025 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC 2) in Cape Town, South Africa.

This unmissable event, which brings together producers, broadcasters, platforms and economic operators, will once again be an opportunity for Côte Ouest Audiovisuel to be one of its players with the ambition, on the one hand, to expand its presence and highlight the diversity of its activities and the strength of its partnerships and, on the other hand, to reaffirm the historic partnership that binds it to the Brazilian giant Globo.

For over 25 years, Globo and Côte Ouest have forged an exclusive partnership in Africa, which has grown ever stronger over the years. To date, Côte Ouest has acquired over 9,000 hours of hit premium content from Globo. This content, carefully dubbed into French and English by Côte Ouest’s in-house studio, Studio1, or by external providers, is then distributed to over 77 countries in Africa and others.

By combining their expertise, Globo and Côte Ouest aim to highlight the diversity and potential of audiovisual content from these regions and explore new opportunities.

Jonathan Lett, Managing Director of Côte Ouest: “We are delighted to be sharing the same booth with our partner Globo. This synergy is a natural fit, especially given that Africa and Brazil share a common history and cultural heritage, which is reflected in our stories. Together, we aim to present captivating content that resonates far beyond our borders and to create lasting partnerships”.

Rodrigo Nascimento, Head of International Sales – EMEA of Globo: “Globo and Côte Ouest have a long-standing partnership, and we are delighted to strengthen theses ties at MIP Africa. The continent is an important territory for Globo, as it connects with our stories, telenovelas, and series. I believe that our joint presence at the event will open up opportunities to bring Globo’s content to new audiences”.

Cote Ouest, the leading distributor of content for and from Africa, has announced that it will be bringing multiple award-winning African telenovela Legacy, dubbed in Neutral Spanish, for Latin America.

Produced by Multichoice Studios in South Africa, Legacy has been widely praised for its compelling storytelling and exceptional production values. Legacy is the very first African novela to be dubbed into Neutral Spanish for the purpose of serving Latin American audiences, and thus will pioneer an effort to respond to the growing demand in the region for more diversified content and for high-end international drama available in local language.

The novela follows the story of a wealthy family who must navigate the complexities of power, politics, and family dynamics in the wake of the patriarch’s sudden death. A critical and commercial success across Africa, Legacy has won multiple awards for its writing, directing, and acting, but has also widely stood out for its compelling plotlines, intricate characters, and its nuanced portrayal of complex issues such as race, class, and gender.

“We are excited to be working with Cote Ouest to bring Legacy to Latin America,” said Mauro Black of Multichoice Studios. “It is a series that we are incredibly proud of, and we believe that it has the power to captivate audiences around the world. We are thrilled to see how it will be received in Latin America.”

Latin American and African audiences share several similarities in their societal characteristics and values. Both regions have gone through a history of colonization, struggle for independence, and racial oppression, which has shaped their social, political, and cultural landscapes. The distribution of African content in Latin America is not only about providing entertainment but also about promoting cultural exchange and understanding, while supporting on-screen representation and increasing diversity in media.

“We are thrilled to be bringing Legacy to Latin America with a Spanish dub, making it accessible for the first time to Latin audiences,” said Kimberley Azria, who handles Business Development for Cote Ouest. “It is a truly exceptional telenovela that showcases the very best of African storytelling and production values. We feel that it has a high potential to travel outside of its domestic market and that it will especially resonate with audiences across Latin America”

Cote Ouest’s decision to bring Legacy to Latin America is an important step towards building a more diverse and inclusive media landscape that reflects the diversity and richness of the world we live in. Legacy is an extraordinary showcase of the incredible talent and creativity that exists in Africa and its distribution in Latin America will be an important milestone that can pave the way for more premium African content to assert its place and relevance in the region.

Kimberley Azria added “Twenty years ago Cote Ouest was the first to bring Latin American telenovelas to African audiences, which are to this day still scoring some the highest audience records throughout our continent. Today we must recognize the incredible aptitudes of our local talents in adopting the novela genre and making it their own by creating African telenovelas such as Legacy. We are convinced that the same ingredients which made Latin telenovelas so successful in African markets will make African telenovelas equally as successful in Latin America”.

Legacy will soon be available for acquisition in Latin America.
