Mediacrest Entertainment and Malule Entertainment, a production company founded by José Ignacio Chascas Valenzuela and Argentine producer Lucas Akoskin, have closed a deal for the renowned showrunner to develop Mentiras de Sangre in Spain. Spanning multiple seasons, the series blends intense drama with elements of action and mystery, offering a gripping tale of intrigue and complex family struggles.

Recognized by The New York Times as one of the ten best writers in Latin America, in 2005 Chascas was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the television series Amores.

His series Who Killed Sara? premiered in 2021, becoming one of the most globally watched non-English language shows on Netflix.

He has since released the hugely successful series High Heat and Sisters’ Feud, both of which also premiered on Netflix.

The series:

For years, the Perdomos have strived to project an image of being the perfect family. Believing themselves to be unique, special, and untouchable, they are convinced they’re immune to tragedy. But nothing could be further from the truth. Because in every family, there’s always one bad apple that can spoil the whole bunch. And in the case of the Perdomos, they’re hiding a crime—one that paved their way to the top and made them who they are. But now, that very crime is about to be exposed.

Mediacrest Entertainment will participate in the third edition of Content Americas with one of the most renowned showrunners and screenwriters on the Spanish-language audiovisual scene: Aurora Guerra. Having helmed such series as Acacias 38 or El secreto de Puente Viejo, the production company has reached a deal with Guerra to present two long-running series with the Latin American market in mind: El espejo and Aquello que fuiste.

Aurora Guerra is one of the most prominent creators of fiction in Spain. As a screenwriter, author, showrunner and executive producer, she’s responsible for many of the major successes on Spanish television. Most recently, Mía es la venganza, Escándalo, relato de una obsession, Fuerza de paz and the aforementioned Acacias 38 and El secreto de Puente Viejo. Guerra was also behind Camera Café, one of the most popular tv shows among audiences in Spain.

Mediacrest arrives in Miami with three of its executives: Cristian Liarte (Director of Global Business Development, Acquisitions and Partners), Mónica Guerrero (Production Executive) and Israel López (Head of Documentaries) bringing with them an array of projects to secure partners and foster collaboration on both sides of the Atlantic.

Along with fiction projects, Mediacrest will also present its Global Production and Services division that launched last October and offers support for international production companies that wish to shoot in Spain, ranging from securing locations, technical services to managing tax incentives and legal affairs.

The two Aurora Guerra series presented by Mediacrest for the Latin American market are:

Aquello que fuiste: A famous actress kills her daughter’s boyfriend, defending her from getting raped; But beyond this event, there are more things at play: a daughter’s resentment towards her mother whom she’s bent on overshadowing. And the desperate determination of a mother willing to do whatever it takes to reclaim her fading stardom. To recover what once was.

El espejo: 1962. After discovering her husband’s infidelity on the very day of their wedding, Carmen suffers a terrible accident. This leads her to discover that she’s not the daughter of whom she believed to be her biological parents. The search to find her true origins leads Carmen to the Labarta family, owners of an exclusive and shadowy hotel emporium. The kind of shadows that the Labartas are willing to keep from coming to light at any cost. Without realizing it, Carmen will be putting something beyond her identity on the line: her own life.

*By Luis Cabrera, Ana Paula Carreira and Fernando Moreno, from Miami, USA

In a year of great news and investment in production for the group, Mediacrest Entertainment made its way to Miami for a new edition of Content Americas, where it is presenting its new titles for the international market.

First on the list is the series Asuntos Internos, starring Laia Manzanares, Silvia Abascal and Marta Poveda, a thriller full of intrigue, tension, action and drama that for six episodes will take the viewer to a police station in a working-class neighborhood in the late 70s, early 80s, and which has just been selected for the Berlinale Series Market.

“I think that Asuntos internos -not only as a company project, which is our flagship in fiction, our first major fiction TV project- marks a milestone in terms of content from a historical part of our country,” Cristian Liarte, Director of Global Business Development, Acquisitions and Partners at Mediacrest Entertainment, began in a conversation with ttvnews from Miami.

“In Spain, the era in which the series is set is very well recognized, with the difference that we tell it from the eyes of the first female detective in a police station in the country, which brings together two universes that people are not used to seeing. And it seems that there is a lot of interest in the market to see it,” explained the executive.

And although the plot is set in a very Spanish context, the executive is confident that the series can win over audiences in several Latin American markets.

“The first thing is that it works locally, of course. But we always try to think about how it will be perceived from the eyes of Latin America, if the stories are international, that they can be understood in other countries,” said the executive. “And in the end, her conflict is one that anyone can understand.”

“Also, in a historical context that while perhaps in Latam does not resonate as much, the conflict she faces when arriving in a new place is very easy to recognize. You feel part of that conflict because in the end it is crossing a barrier of something that has not happened until then, breaking a status quo, something that has happened throughout the region at other historical moments. We always think about how that story can cross the pond and be understood in Latam.”

In addition to Asuntos internos, Mediacrest is presenting several titles such as El espejo and Aquello que fuiste, and the feature film Daniela Forever, by Nacho Vigalondo.

“I think that 2025 will be the area of fiction and film at Mediacrest,” the executive summed up, and continued: “With the three film projects that we have ahead of us, with a services area that has started in the best possible way, that we are delighted with everything that is coming, with the premiere of Asuntos internos and with several projects that seem to be going to see the light soon.”

“I think that is consolidating a work that we have been doing for the last three years with a lot of investment and hours, and with releases that we hope people will like.”

In this commitment to content production, Mediacrest is based on a unique strategy of combining both the business side with the story side. “Mediacrest has something very particular in its way of conceiving content and content production, and that is that we feel very much like producers. We believe a lot in the craft and what we do, and in investing in content. And that balance in which it is a business, together with finding and investing in good stories, is what I would highlight as the fundamental value,” he explained.

“And that is still a competitive advantage, looking at the story from many angles that are not only that of the business. Trying to balance the two worlds. And having confidence in the stories, in the talent, trying to attract the greatest possible talent and investing. Believing in what we do, which is our leitmotiv,” he concluded.

*With production by Luis Cabrera and Ana Paula Carreira, from Cannes, France

Present at a new edition of Mipcom in Cannes, Mediacrest closed the second day with a special cocktail to announce the launch of a new business unit, dedicated to international production in Spain.

Called Mediacrest Global Production & Services, it will be led by Denis Pedregosa, Director of Services, and Mónica Guerrero, Production executive, who spoke with ttvnews during the presentation about their objectives for the new division.

“Mediacrest has had its focus on international from the beginning, doing projects with international partners, going abroad and bringing projects to Spain as well,” began Mónica Guerrero. “And this launch is a way of building upon this. Bringing more projects to Spain.”

“Although the division is new, it is a team that has a lot of experience, that has been producing many international projects in Spain. Our goal is to improve projects from international producers through Spain and what we can offer them there. From the production value that we have in Spain, things that we already know like locations and so on. But also with the whole structure of tax incentives.”

In this sense, the executive stressed that the group is willing to work with all kinds of partners. “We are very open to all kinds of projects. Maximum flexibility to adapt to the needs of each producer and each project,” she explained.

“I would add that the goal is to bring the best projects to Spain and produce them in the best possible way, as if they were produced in their country of origin,” added Denis Pedregosa.

“It’s a matter of know-how, quality, production value, structuring things well. We don’t just do the physical production part, but we also do the structuring. The project, from the moment we start thinking about where to film, to where it ends. The whole process, structuring, maximizing incentives… We are in every step,” listed the executive.

The launch also comes at a time of boom for Spain in terms of international content production.

“Spain doesn’t stop producing,” Guerrero summarized. “The incentives and filming are very good. In addition, each territory is trying to motivate and encourage people to go and film there. The Canary Islands have been doing so for a long time, but now also others like the Basque Country, Navarra…”

“International content continues to be produced in Spain,” Pedregosa said along the same lines. “Even before the incentives, a lot of filming was done in Spain, and now even more so. We’re seeing a greater volume of international projects that are also asking us to be more partners, in addition to just services. At the level of locations, structure, and creative.”

“That’s why it’s a time when it’s very important to find a good partner in Spain. Because the different places have good incentives, but you need a good partner who understands the structures and can guide you to produce in Spain,” Guerrero concluded.

La entrada Denis Pedregosa and Mónica Guerrero, Mediacrest: “The goal is to bring the best projects to Spain” se publicó primero en TTV News.

*By ttvnews, from Miami, EEUU

Mediacrest Entertainment has brought two new titles to Content Americas, which will be heavily promoted. However, based in Barcelona and Madrid, the production company has expressed its desire to find potential partners to collaborate on new co-productions that can be distributed in Spain, Latin America, and the US Hispanic market.

In an interview with ttvnews, the company discussed its interest in expanding its reach through new collaborations.

Berta Orozco, Head of International Sales and Co-Productions at Mediacrest, said, “We are here to present the projects that we have in development for co-production with American partners, as well as to explore opportunities with other projects that may travel to Spain.”

The executive highlighted their interest in finding partners in Mexico and the Hispanic USA. “At Content Americas, we bring two projects mainly, two projects that are thought and developed in Spain, but with the opportunity to look for partners in the region, to find a way to produce them so that they can be in both territories,” she said.

Regarding the content that Mediacrest will present at Content Americas, Orozco spoke especially about Astral, which is a story about zodiac goddesses focused on a “young adult” target, and another story called Hermanos de mucha sangre, a juvenile vampire story about vampires.
