Rai and Disney+ have signed an agreement that will bring some of Rai’s most iconic titles to Disney+ customers.

This groundbreaking agreement between one of Europe’s leading public broadcasters, through its subsidiary Rai Com, the commercial arm of public television, and one of the leading global streaming services expands Rai’s reach and the Disney+ catalogue, while strengthening the long-standing relationship between the two companies.

As part of this initiative, Belve, the renowned, conversation-driving talk show hosted by Francesca Fagnani, and The Floor – Ne rimarrà solo uno, the high-energy game show hosted this year by Paola Perego and Gabriele Vagnato, will be available for Disney+ customers to stream from the next day after airing on Rai 2.

In addition, Disney+ will expand its offering of high-quality local content with a selection of Rai’s unmissable titles from the recent past, including beloved series such as Braccialetti rossi, Mina Settembre, L’amica geniale, Un passo dal cielo and Màkari, as well as the docu-reality series Il Collegio, which has become a true cult classic for a generation. These will be offered soon in a dedicated collection on Disney+ . Italy’s public broadcaster RAI has secured a selection of premium European series from Beta, bringing some of the continent’s most acclaimed crime and family shows to Italian audiences.

The deal includes the gripping French mystery thriller Homejacking, Spain’s critically acclaimed Rapa, as well as the German crime movie cycles Murder in the Valley and Crimes of Crete, which recently premiered in Germany with almost 5 million viewers and a market share of almost 20%, making it the primetime winner.

Beta Kids & Family titles, including the audience-favorite Prisma, the Norwegian coming-of-age series Rumors, and the charming holiday series Campsite, along with several other exciting shows, are set to captivate young audiences on RAI.

Series Mania 2024 Competition entry Homejacking (6x1h) is written and created by Lupin writers Tigran Rosine and Florent Meyer in collaboration with Emmanuelle Faguer. The series kicks off in an affluent suburban residence where a middle-class couple are the victims of an intrusion by a hooded assailant. No one knows yet what he is looking for, but deep in their basement lies a secret that was hidden for decades. Homejacking is produced by Lincoln TV with the participation of OCS.

From the creators of Spanish hit series Hierro, Rapa (18x1h) was praised by international media as “fascinating as well as enthralling, calming and intriguing” (Vertele) and “a high-quality crime thriller with a bit of politics, a lot of psychology, and atmospheric shots from Galicia” (FAZ). The series follows high school teacher Tomas and local cop Maite, who become an unlikely team solving a murder case. The series is produced by Movistar Plus+ in collaboration with Portocabo.

Murder in the Valley (2x2h, UFA Fiction), a crime movie cycle produced for RTL Germany, follows a self-confessed Italian and a tough big-city cop, who team up to investigate brutal murders in the rural parts of Germany’s rust belt, while in Crimes of Crete (2x2h, Relevant Film Production), seasoned detective Eleni returns to Crete, not only to solve murders on the Island of Gods, but also to heal the wounds of the past.

The award-winning young adult coming-of-age series Prisma (16×45′) explores the complex relationship between identity, aspirations, physical appearance, and sexual orientation in a group of teenagers. Produced by Cross Productions, part of the Beta Group, the series already has a dedicated online following in Italy and beyond.

Rumors also revolves around a group of teenagers, this time on a small island in Norway. Produced by Mothership Entertainment, Rumors (30×12′) captures the whole teenage experience: emotions, friendships, identity searches, young love, and, of course, rumors that spread online!

The original TV series Sandokan, directed in 1976 by Sergio Sollima, catapulted actor Kabir Bedi to Bollywood stardom, having sold to more than 85 countries worldwide.

Fremantle’s Lux Vide, in collaboration with Rai Fiction, has unveiled its first-look images for Sandokan, a new international adaptation of Emilio Salgari’s historical saga about the adventures of a titular pirate who, with his motley crew, fights against colonial powers in Southeast Asia.

Based on an idea by Lux Vide CEO Luca Bernabei, the new Sandokan will be a grand and epic action-adventure with a strong connection to the environment, developed for television by Alessandro Sermoneta (Devils); Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield); Davide Lantieri (Monterossi) and directed by Jan Maria Michelini (Devils) and Nicola Abbatangelo (Doc).

The Italian public broadcaster acquired the first 26 episodes of the new teen series.

Mondo TV Group, one of the largest European producers and distributors of animated content, has announced that Annie & Carola, its brand-new 2D animated comedy series, has been presold to the leading Italian public children’s broadcaster RAI Ragazzi, part of RAI, Italy’s national broadcasting company.

Mondo TV S.p.A, which will provide the animation services for the series, has confirmed a pre-sale deal with RAI Ragazzi for the first 26 episodes of the 52 x 11’ series that follows the adventures and mishaps of two unusual teenagers: shy, super-geek Carola and her outgoing best friend Annie – who is a robot. The 26 episodes are expected to be completed and delivered to RAI by the first half of 2023.

The agreement grants an exclusive license for a period of seven years from the date of completion of the episodes for free TV, pay TV, pay per view, VoD and ancillary rights for the Italian territory.

The show, which is a Mondo TV Studios’ project, is now entering its pre-production phase in Tenerife. Annie & Carola is a co-production between Mondo TV Studios, MB Producciones, Mondo TV S.p.A and Spanish public broadcaster RTVE. It was created by the legendary writer and producer Myriam Ballesteros.

This is a very important deal for the entire Mondo TV Group, as it will provide a major boost to the show’s production budget. It also, of course, confirms the international potential of the series.

Already creating a powerful buzz in the broadcast industry, Annie & Carola is the story of Carola, a lonely, nerdy girl with no social skills, who desperately wants a best friend – someone who will share her love of science, always agree with her and protect her from the terrifying teen world at school. So, she decides to build herself one, someone just like her. But things don’t go quite as planned and her robot companion, Annie, turns out to be her complete opposite! The excitable, emotional Annie keeps dragging Carola into all the situations she hates and making Carola confront her fears. But despite all their differences, Annie and Carola complement and help each other, learning to be true friends.

And there’s one more twist to this tale: Carola doesn’t want anyone to know that Annie is a robot – so she decides to tell everyone that Annie is a foreign student!

It’s a fun and entertaining animated comedy, full of sparkling dialogue, hilarious situations and visual gags, but it also offers something more. All the episodes have a special focus on the needs and emotions of its stars – and teens in general.

This is also a series with a very colourful cast of characters – but that’s not all. Every one of the show’s main characters has a secret – a secret that will be unveiled at a different time during the series for each character. It’s an engaging concept that not only drives an involving story but also allows the characters to evolve in fascinating – and sometimes unexpected – ways.

There’s a lot for the audience to identify with too. Throughout the series, Annie and Carola will experience the many and varied emotions and situations teens go through: shyness, loneliness, frustration, respect, misunderstanding, shame, guilt, empathy, pride, kindness… Each episode is self-contained, rather like a sitcom episode, allowing the young audience to identify with and relate to the characters as well as the circumstances and needs they have to manage every day – and to see how togetherness and a positive attitude can help them to overcome their difficulties.

A mystery-drama series, Survivors will be co-produced between the Italian, French and German groups. Filming for the series will last 23 weeks and will take place in Genoa and Rome, with an Italian and international cast.

Survivors is a mystery-drama in twelve episodes of 50 minutes, directed by Carmine Elia (The Sea Beyond, The Red Door) and starring Lino Guanciale, Luca Biagini, Barbora Bobulova, Stéfi Celma, Vincenzo Ferrera, Florian Fitz, Giacomo Giorgio, Pia Lanciotti, Sophie Pfenningstorf, Elena Radonicich, Fausto Maria Sciarappa, Camilla Semino Favro, Alessio Vassallo, Adèle Wismes.

At the heart of the story is the Arianna, a sailboat with twelve passengers that sets out on an ocean crossing. After a few days of sailing, after a violent storm, the boat disappears from the radar. A year later, the wreck is found with only seven people onboard still alive. What happened to the others? What secret are the survivors hiding? Each episode follows the complex events related to the return of the survivors, alternating with the terrible time they spent drifting to reveal, step by step, the secret of their trip.
